Day one, collection. As smooth as could be.

30 miles covered so far on soaked b-roads and 20 on motorway/dual carriageway.

Big tank!

In those 50 miles so far, I've experienced way more fizz than the BMW gave me over 25k. Way more.

Seeing this is going to take some getting used to. I'm off out later for another hit.

So good! It's a car you turn around in the carpark to look back on when you've parked up.

The BMW is just another BMW, a tool if you will. This actually has character.

What's confused me is your comment above about the fizz, from watching many of your videos before I can't understand that as it seemed that you did really enjoy the BMW and it seemed to be the "omzzzggg amazing best car ever" thing? It's almost as if your feelings for the bmw suddenly dropped off a cliff despite all your videos as evidence.

Congratulations mate - that looks superb; such a good-looking car!

When the pandemic has calmed and the better weather returns... then be sure to head Wales-wards... happy to compare and contrast Porkers Porsche-fwend! :ROFLMAO:

Lovely mate. Looking forward to the vids of you getting to grips with it, and then seeing its first outing at Goodwood.

I'm guessing not much slower than the FRS & M140 at Goodwood, a second or 2 my maybe.

The rear wiper always looks awkward on these, looks so much better without...

Should be a fun little car that ;)

My step dad had a 981 non S for a couple of years and it was a nice drive, never really felt ‘omg it needs more power’ as it was just nice and fun to drive.

Cool car, can't go wrong with a Porsche.

Dash also looks very dated, has quite a volvo look to it. Are there some simple mods you can do to change that?

Bin off the rubbish stereo and try to find some trim that isn't Grey.

This exactly, the rear wiper and rear wing look terrible and need sorting out.

Yes! BMW, what BMW? Great upgrade Mark.

Any plans to re-add the ‘Cayman’ badge on the boot lid? Also, can you easily upgrade the Head Unit to the digital screen on these Gen1s?

No plans whatsoever. I really like it exactly as it is. Subtle but purposeful.

Sound system has the speaker upgrade from 4 to 9 speakers, it's got a six disc changer, lacks real balls but it's good enough for me as it is.

The BMW for what it is, is the best car ever. As a package it's immense. Mine with a diff was a total hooligan. If I needed that much car again, I'd have another in a heartbeat, That or an M2. That would probably give me the engagement I feel the 140 is missing.

100% we are doing that :)

See comment above. My needs have changed. I only have one child that needs ferrying from time to time. So I've gone for something slightly more amazing than the 140 in the exact area that the 140 was lacking in.

I'm guessing not much slower than the FRS & M140 at Goodwood, a second or 2 my maybe.

Reg got his modded 330ci Clubsport to within 1 second of me in the 140. On road tyres, it was tired, 220,000+ miles, but well setup and had a diff.

So I think there's a chance I'll be able to get this thing around even faster than the 140. It's going to be fun finding out.

Meh. I honestly don't see it. Well worth it for the wipe.

What I've found out even in the damp today and on N rated Bridgestone RE050 tyres, is that it's a serious thing. OMG. Like OMFG.

It sounds glorious, audio porn between 5k and 7k rpm, the shift feel is beautiful, the throttle response reminds me exactly of my 172 Cup. No surprise really when they both make near identical bhp per litre. The steering is just perfect.

It feels light, really light, feels like it's got more than the 245bhp and 200 lbsft the book says. I will get it on at Surrey Rolling Road and find out at some point. It is 100% standard so I'm not expecting anything different.

It is quick enough, more than quick enough, but it does require work and lots of shifts to get that from it. Fortunately that's why I bought it.

It's wonderful 😁

Love the colour! Can't help but think its needs lowering a tad.

Dash also looks very dated, has quite a volvo look to it. Are there some simple mods you can do to change that?

It's 10mm lower than non PASM cars. That's enough for me.

The grey colour is a massive tick for me. I dislike black interiors. Ever since I had my orange ST. I want where I spend my time to not be all black. This has a nice light cabin.

Have you played with the cup holders yet? They are a thing of beauty.....!

They are!

Speaking of practicality, it is ridiculously almost unbelievably spacious. The contents of my BMW cabin, it's door bin, centre armrest and glovebox, all fits in one carpet lined door bin on the Cayman. Even then I've had to pack it with multiple micro-fibres to stop stuff flying about.

The build and design of this thing is good, very good. I like it a lot.

Stellar choice fella, but I’m bias.
I love the unfussy lines of the 987 and they have probably my favourite steering of any car, even better than any Elise/Exige I’ve driven.
They get better the more time you spend in them and over a technical undulating B road, they just feel alive.

I absolutely adore mine, and totally see why you’ve made this step. Best wishes with your ownership of it, looking forward to hearing more about it. 🙂

Fantastic choice, Mark!

Let me know when you’re up for SRR and I’ll pop along for a nosey; I’ve wanted to put the Megane on there since I picked it up too.

The interior isn't for me, but i can totally understand why you have gone this route, i know it's not all about the speed, and the Porsche will be a much better drive, but i bet in a few weeks you will be missing the grunt of the 140.

Great choice though mate..... (y)
