decat first...you will increase in MPG will make buying the inlets second make financial sense.

minimal, maybe 3-6 bhp at a guess, would need a live mapping session to see the real benefits from those modifications

its different for every car i dare say to what gains you will see from either, but id say on a 172 try a decat first then matched inlets, its better and cheaper to buy second hand inlets and DIY match them. its really is minimal gains for either mod 1-3hp perhaps but others will argue alot different but there will be better throttle response.

personally when i had my matched inlets done by AWT and fitted them with ptfe gaskets the car did feel alot smoother and pulled better, and for decat didnt notice anything except loudness lol.

it wont pop and bang with decat, ul need an over run map for that, however on a cold morning it may give the odd pop

If you are going to go to the effort of matching inlets, you may aswell just get an RS lower and match the upper to it, or if you really want to perfectly match it - start with an RS lower in the first place.

The RS lowers are a larger bore all the way through compared to normal ones, Renault didnt just open the ends out. So in reality the 'best' setup you can get is a 'matched' RS lower, which is matched to the head, then a standard upper which has been matched to the RS lower.

they only came on 172 cups and 182's (a few slipped through the net though) no set pattern really as to what cars had them

i have 'rs stamped' inlets and when jabbasport matched the upper and lower inlets for me they said it was well worth doing. took over 1mm out.
i would have matched inlets over decat anyday, i don't like headache's.

just going off what they said ferd. was in for lots of other work and it was very cheap (as my mate is the owners son). they said the original match was not very good and it was worth doing.

i'm telling my other half 1mm makes all the difference, i'll let you know if she agrees!

Just out of curiosity Fred why did Renault only apply the RS stamped lower inlet to certain ones? Its not as if they had realised down the line it was an improved set up and continued on all cars? They only did a few?

well i was under the impression ALL 172 cups had the RS inlet, and most of them do, but the odd few don't, again same with 182's most do, some don't

its all a bit random, but we'll blame the frenchies for that!

Seems the early 172 cups don't have RS inlets, tell tale signs of the early ones are orange side repeaters as standard & for those with ECU access software version 6xxx xxxx opposed to the latter 172 cup 7xxx xxxx software... Just from what we've seen when having them apart

well the 2 x 52 plate cups i've owned have both had RS inlets LOL, bloody french!

Wouldnt get too hung up on this RS inlet. Lets face it, the Cup is hardly a rocket ship compared to every other Clio Sport model. Still room for improvement even on the RS one!

The RS has a better cast thats why its 'good' to start off. The rest vary in cast quality
