MOT Advisory - Blowing exhaust at the cat - Help?

Hey all

Title says all, what are my choices here, obviously it's an advisory, do I need to desperatly get this sorted? Or can I leave it til next year and then sort it. Also what are my choices to replace, do I have to replace certain sections of the exhaust or the whole thing?

Know absolute s**t about exhausts.

Can it be bodge-fixed, weld or similar?

Best to get it sorted now, unless it turns into something more serious.

Surely your best to get this welded or reseated with new paste.

Is it blowing from the joint or the actual cat?

It'll only get worse, and much louder at the same time. Just find a local exhaust place to weld it up. Yozza

It won't last til next year. It'll wait and then go on you just as you're late for a meeting, or on the way to an airport or something.

I'm guessing the car is a few years old (first MOT is at 3 years IIRC?) so no real point speaking to Renault about warranty related work ?

I'd be either welding it up as a bodge fix for now short term, but if you're planning on keeping the car for a while .. full very OEM looking S/S system unless insurance is happy with an aftermarket exhaust.

Unless it's the cat' itself which has gone which is an awfully short life time but fairly unsurprising TBH from Renault...

At MOT place now, waiting for some pads to arrive as they need changing and all he said was advisory is exhaust blowing at the cat, they will change it but as its advisory I didn't say yeah as I'll shop round, if changing it, can you change exhaust from cat to end?

Really know nothing about exhausts, excuse me for my stupidness.

Yeah first MOT, so warranty is over now.

The cat is a seperate section, you dont replace the full exhaust, your exisiting back box will be used and a new catalyst converter installed. My local garage would weld it but of course some garages would prefer to sell you a new part.

The cat hasnt gone because it has passed, it's blowing from joint at cat

In which case they should be able to just reseat it using new exhaust paste and a new clip... £15 job i'd expect.

good luck should be a simple and cheap fix. Surprised the station didnt offer to do it for you.

you only need a new cat fitting kit, £25 and half of 1 english hour - done

took the car to another garage, its sorted now, it took 5 mins, 1 bolt tightened and 5 of my best brittish pounds.
