MOT question (engine conversion people)

  Lionel Richie
right then, Mr MOT man is bieng a pain

i don't have the original 1.2 16V ABS wiring connected (needs to be spliced into the 2.0 loom) and he's failed the car beacuse "ABS light does not illuminate"

he's saying VOSA say if ABS is factory fitted it must be working

brakes are fine, they passed

what happened with your converted cars?

Take it somewere else? lol.
Will it pass it with an advisory if the light is on? Might be worth putting the bulb in and asking!

so the abs works, but the light doesnt illuminate?

im sure my abs light doesnt come on when the abs is activated?

It just doesn't come on because the look aint connected? Take it somewhere else, I had about 5 different lights on mine for MOT and a shagged CV boot and it passed!

When the ignition is on it iluminates for a few seconds IIRC....

where do you think it is!

dan, no the ABS system isn't electronically connected to the vehicle at all

  Lionel Richie
yes, i told them what had been done etc etc

the engine isn't the factory original (1.2 16V to 172 cup) but thats ok, the airbags went in the bin years ago but thats ok, but MOT man says no just beacuse the abs doesn't work!

  M2 Competition
It wont pass as the abs was fitted from factory, but now isnt. This is why some cups fail, as the brackets are in place, but no brake bias system is fitted, so the mot centre thinks it should have one.

Guessing the other members with conversions kept the abs fred?

There two ways round it.

1) Fix the loom and wire it up (legal and best idea)

2) Wire the dashboard so that the abs light comes on for a few seconds ever time the key is turned and then goes off. Maplins etc will be bale to get you a PIC timer etc which will when given power switch on a bulb for a few seconds then switch it of until the the power supply is switched off and back on again ie as if the key is trning.

He is correct in failing it.....but.....

Take the instrument panel apart and wire the abs light to the oil pressure light, job done, comes on with ignition off and goes out after engine running, just as it does when working correctly and not bodged to pass the mot.

;)

Or do it the proper way.

right here i am to answer your prayers lol :)

when it cam to my abs the 2,0 had it and my 1.2 had it but the connections were different and i've never bothered connecting, the abs isnt connected to the brakes but the wires are still there that come from behind the wheel liner all i did was hide the bloody wires away if they cant see crap all they wont know its their. I've never been questioned on it. also remove the l.e.d from the dash to incase its lit up when its running.

cant see why your being failed on it aslong as the brakes work, mine cant even be tested on the rollers he has to drive it outside to test them on the road but of course they work extremly well!

im sure just hiding anything to do with the abs should sort it and try a different mot place some just niggle round looking for anything, my guy managed to spot a bolt missing i had no idea about which was good
