MOT - Tyres

Quick question.. I got my MOT coming up and my tyres are fairly close to the wear marker as in there's only a slight lip to the marker 1mm perhaps. I'm worried if it will pass as it's on the 15'th and just deciding if I should order some tyres now which means touching my savings or waiting till a few weeks and hope it passes MOT and get them done shortly after.

I know I could just go get some fitted if it's a fail but was planning on buying them from camskill so would mean a wait, it will be Michelin ps3's which are about £108 on camskill but not sure if a local tyre fitters would be a fair bit more than that?

You can get MOT a month done in advance and still drive up to the date of the current MOT without it being flagged in anpr etc. or so my mot man tells me.

Is it booked for the 15th or does it run out on the 15th?

If thats when its booked, send her in, if she fails then order some new rubber and go for the free re-test. Bit more iffy if its actually up on the 15th.

Yeah it's booked for the 15th don't really have a chance to book it in before then.

14 days retest time isn't it? Should be okay then although if they're out of stock I'll be screwed lol. Might just dib into savings to be on safe side lol can always put it back in next week I suppose.

It will be fine if its a mm above the wear marker.

Or just get Camskill to diver them to your garage now. You know they need them, what difference does a week make?

I was going to get them delivered to my house tbh and take them to get fitted somewhere different to where the MOT is being done.

I'll have another look over the whole tyre tomorrow and decide from there I think, they do look very close to the wear marker. Like I say might just get them now just to be on safe side, not ideal but saves the hassle if they do fail.

Haha understandable it is a fairly basic and simple question, just thought I'd see what CS had to say really as I'm sat here deciding whether to buy them now or not .

the wear markers are at 2mm minimum legal limit(and mot limit) is 1.6mm across the centre 3/4 of the tyre so should be fine as long as ur not doing thousands of miles in the next few days.

Cheers mate should be okay then.. Probably best as I'm going mad here trying to figure what tyres to even go for now.

For a non trackday car with tyres that will be left on all year round I have no idea what to get tbh.

Advan ADO8's
Federal RSR's
Michelin PS3's
Goodyear eagle F1
Toyo R1R
Hankook V12

No idea which one to pick from above, I've been reading reviews and going in circles at work for the last 4 hours lol. All I want is something that will have plenty of grip in the dry safe levels of grip in the wet with a good lifespan/£ and also not to kill me come winter time. I guess this would write off the semi slicks? The PS3's seem like the best shout still but just seem so damn expensive considering a lot of people on here seem happy with lower brands.

Currently have PS3's up front which I like and Yokohama parada spec 2's on the rear which makes for some interesting wet driving lol.

If it fails and its passed its date you can't drive it off the forcourt

Just order the tyres then MOT it. You need the tyres anyway
