mr clutch updated again

  Clio 172
After the problems i had with mr clutch , i am pleased to say all is well with my clutch and gearbox once more, after talking to a very nice lady at their head office, I returned the car for work.
To be fair they dropped the box out , skimmed the flywheel, inspected all ares, fitted a `new` valeo clutch, and even replaced my squeeky fan belt.... free ,
I know i slated them on here , but i have to give credit where it is due , they sorted the car out and could not appologise more .

Big thanks to sarah for the brilliant customer service , and alan, who is the manager at derby , who , i gotta say is a credit to them .

The car is due for a cam belt soon and will be going back there to do the work .

thanks

While its nice you got the result you wanted it still sucks that you had to jump through all the hoops to get it when it should be present to begin with. You shouldnt need to revisit 3x, you shouldnt need to speak to head office, you shouldnt need to request a new valeo clutch it should be provided first time etc.

Anyway until someone else goes to them we wont know if this has had an impact or not really so no point mentioning it anymore.

You're in Derby? With several specialists on here within a short drive from you?

It sounds like you've had your fingers burnt once and fortunately, managed to get away with it. Polite, helpful and friendly they maybe - but aren't you asking for yet more potential risk with a 2nd visit? Something as critical as the cambelt should be done by a specialist who could do it with their eyes shut. Would you plough a skanky girl for the 2nd time who gave you a dose of the side-walkers? Learn and move on....

Cambelt there.

Not sure if trolling.

LOL!

Congratualtions on a company called "Mr Clutch" whose business is built on replacing clutches properly, for....... replacing a clutch properly.

However they certainly arent a "Mr Cambelt".

even so called specialists get it wrong. at least its been put right, some garages would not even take a second look after they ruin your car .

There's specialists in here, 3 in your area that haven't made a mistake in a long time, publicly anyway. And I know if any of the three near you did they'd fix it first time.

You've obviously only been a member here for a short time, so may be unaware of how important getting the cambelt fitted correctly is.

There are special tools required for the job and I, as with the majority of the other members, would recommend you go to some of the long standing and well used Specialists in your area.

Would be a shame to see you posting on here later regarding your timing etc etc!

Please for the love of all that's holy, don't go there for your cambelt.

They already called the accessory belt 'the fanbelt' and messed up your clutch. Walk away. Lucky escape.

interesting ..... i gave credit to a company that fixed their mistake, admitedly it was poor service originally ( by a guy who told the manager it was ok ) , but they have sorted it out. they even had the balls to come on here and admit they got it wrong and would do everything possible to get it right.... how many garages would do that.

I wonder what the ratio is of BTM/TDF/Birchdown etc making a mistake on a cambelt vs the amount of times they have to fix other garages mistakes when someones 'had a go' at doing a F4R

It depends where your standards lie. It would seem you have a low standard.

Personally I would expect a company that specialises in fitting clutch's to offer service above that of my local garage, as they should have more expertise. Had they made a mistake, acknowledged it and fixed it I might consider them again. The fact taht it took two visits for them to perform how they should have in the first place means I would be unlikely to return.

The changing of the cam belt on an RS is a specialist job, not just the tools but the expertise required. I would be going to a Specialist, and that doesn't include Renault.

You need to look at what happened to you with prior work done on your car with this company and learn from that experience.

If they screw up you cambelt by incorrectly fitting it or using the wrong item :p its the death of your engine. You were lucky with the clutch and they were very nice to fix it. I don`t think they will be so helpful when you turn round and ask for a new engine. Take it to one of the specialist that have been mentioned in this post. They come with a lot of experience and praise, plus they know what they are doing and have the correct tools. You may save a few £s now but you will loose out in the long run.

I await the next "MrClutch broke my car" thread from you.

Mick, have they offered to take on the cambelt change at a special rate for you as an act of good faith? Seriously, your last Renault had a timing issue that was caused by poor workman ship that got it wrong and that was on an F7R which are childs play in comparison to the F4R.

Its your car and you can take it where ever you like and IF you're truely happy with the service Mr Clutch gave you then fine, go to them, but the horror stories on here aren't there to force you to a trader as some that have gone elsewhere have ended up paying twice where as some haven't (Thats gambling I guess). Again, you do whatever you like, i don't care where you take it but look at John Smee's 182 that went to WK who are a very well respected Skyline and Evo tuners in the area and they got it completely wrong (twice) before it finally came in to me and its been mint ever since. You're old enough to make your own decisions on how to spend your money but you've been warned and incorrect timing isn't always imediately obvious to the untrained ear/eye with the F4R. I've even seen cars from Renault dealers setup incorrectly so do you really believe that Mr Clutch will hit the mark first time because i'm not a betting man but i'd still stick £20 on them getting it wrong (That's money on the table BTW).

Mick

PS: I'm human and i've made mistakes before which I've always owned up to be it damaging trim, paintwork or slicing someones leather seats with my trim tool once... customer service and generally being honest with your customers isn't something you should try to do in business... Its something that should just automatically happen!

Just take the car to Diamond Motors, seriously it will save you so much grief.

I would put £100 on the table they don't have the correct timing tools to carry out the work and don't know the correct procedure.

Pmsl being a mechanic and being from derby I can officially say I have heard many horror stories about mr clutch and wouldn't take my kids go kart there! Ref your cam belt ffs don't do it if you need one doing give Aaron at Aaron's autos/ track speed on Boyer street a call 01332205070 we built and look after a 172 race car and we are just starting to build another for ourselves to race in 2013 so know what we are doing with all aspects of the French pocket rocket.

You'd think from the amount of threads on here about 172 cam belts that you'd entrust the job to someone who's not a specialist.

I guarantee they will make a mess of it.

  Clio 172
guys i was taking the piss , i would only let mick do the belt, and mick i didnt mean you when i say specialists make mistakes, we are only human and like i said i had a load of stress with mr crutch , but at least they sorted it and come on here and said sorry .
