My clio 16v is acting weird since i replaced the Heater Matrix. ''NEED HELP''

  Renault clio 1.8 16v

Over the last few weeks I have attempted to replace the heater matrix, at first it all appeared to go fine.

I knew it was a big job removing the dash and all, however brackets started snapping and in the end i had to order in a load of extras to get it back together. I stupidly rushed into it and when i was disconnecting all the electrics didn’t really pay enough attention for when it came to putting it back together I was completely lost.

Anyhow I finally managed to get everything back together and to have heating for the first time was just great it was like getting a new car. however since i have got it back on the road there appears to be one problem I cant seem to resolve..

This is where I need your help, I think it is a problem with the ECU however it never happened before repaired the heating.. But when I drive the car normally it appears fine, it is when I start hitting the high revs where it just doesn't want to sit back down at 1000 revs but insists to stay at 1500revs..

Initially I thought this was just the throttle cable getting a little stuck so i coated it in WD40 and everything around it but that did nothing. I think it is the something ECU based since i turn the engine off then on and it is back to normal

Has anyone experienced this before, can anyone give me an idea to where i have gone wrong?

Any help would be truly appreciated

Cheers James

mine did that for abit earlier today when i finished changing my heater matrix. i know what you mean about the warmth!!

i managed to resolve it by putting my foot down and holding her steady at 2000rpm whilst not moving for a couple of minutes

then go out and really put your foot down in the lower gears once or twice.

that seems to have solved the problem for me.

When you disconnect a battery on pretty much any Renno you need to leave the car at idle for 15 mins with the lights on then 15 with the lights off. Basically this allows re-calobration and will quite possibly cure your idle problem.

i have the same problem as u mate, my car sometimes idles at 1500rpm, I have been told it could be the "air flow mass meter" ????

Hey cheers everyone for your help, Just recently join clio sport and was so supprised to see so much interest in this problem of mine in such a short period of time.
I actually fitted a new spedo cable while the dash was apart. I'm being told that it needs to be earthed better? all i did was to clip it into the Gearbox, feed it through and into the back of the instrument panel? Did i miss something? I am starting to think now there might have been a wiring connector on it now i might have missed.. bugga, am i going to have to take this dash off again...

I tried to get onto this http://www.cliosport.net/forum/index.php However is this only possible by becoming a member, is it me or do i have to pay to join, is there no way to become a guest just to look around?

I've just got back from work so ill go down now see if i can tinker around with the cable and the try resetting the ECU.

Cheers again for all you help, Ill let you all know how i get on..

its to do with setting the idle speed control valve rco < (Ratio Cyclic Operation)

there is a white 3 pin connector just below the connection to the instrument panel on the end of the cable! - vehicle ecu needs to see vehicle speed to decrease engine idle speed correctly

Hey everyone,

Sorry to take so long to get back to you all, Just want to say thanks to all your help. I managed to locate this problem.. It was the 3pin white connector in the end. I feel stupid how i missed it in the first place really.

I connected it back up and it runs just fine, the idles are sitting back to normal and it get the bigest flames out the back again..

Thanks again...

James..
