my exhaust won't seal

  182 and cherokee 4.0
i have tried everything to get the joins in my exhaust to seal but they just won't. there seems to be too much moisture getting through the joins and it is causing the paste to come away.

can anyone help? :(

I had a garage seal my exhaust using silicone as opposed to the paste which dries solid and touch wood its been great now for a good few months.

Previously it would last a week, if that before the exhaust movement ruptured a hole in the paste.

what exact product should i be buying for this? so i make sure i get the right stuff?

what else could be the issue? there are no visible gaps in the joins

It probably just fits like a chicken's lip. Take the join apart, put paste/ silicone on the inside and outside of the joining pipes then get it on as far as possible and then tighten up the clamps. Give it some heat if you need to then check if it leaks.

b****cks. a really don't fancy pullin' the whole thing apart. oh well.

will any standard silicone sealant do?

I never use paste.
Have forgotten silicone in the past as well and still no blows. must be a bad fit.

A cartridge applied silicone based sealant designed for use where a flexible bond is required together with high temperature resistance. This adhesive gives excellent adhesion between most substrates and, because of its high elasticity, is particularly suited for gap-filling applications and jointing materials of different thermal expansion characteristics and where vibration is a problem.
It sounds like it covers just about everything your exhaust is going to do to it lol

The paste dries out and crumbles away waste of time and money. Get some High temperature silicone sealant from halfords its made by loctite and works a treat as it flexes with exhaust movement.

aye that's what's happening with me. ordered some of this stuff http://www.fluesystems.com/sundries/info/flexseal.htm

hopefully this will sort it.

can i just take the clamps off spread this all over the joins and put the clamps back on?

thanks for everyone's advice

Tig welded mine `cos the ktr decat and magnex exhaust were slightly different sizes where they joined, tried using paste at first but condensation from the exhaust just soften it and made it all loose
