Need a lathe

Im a bit stuck at the moment. I need somewhere that would be able to use a lathe to take 2mm off the diameter of some brake discs. I have tried to google everything I can think of but nothing is coming up.

Ive got some 300mm discs and some 4pot calipers and mounts which are great but there is only about 1mm between the edge of the disc and the caliper. When the disc gets hot ( I have been out bedding the pads in) the disc expands a little and rubs against the caliper. I need to take a little bit off the edge of the disc.

If anyone knows of anywhere in Oxfordshire that would do this let me know . Also what do I type into google?

Car up on axle stands
Get someone to race up through the gears whilst you hold a file against the disc.

Do not do this.
Sounds like a good plan ! what would go wrong? im sure I watched a video of some guy with a golf that polished his deep dish wheels with this method.

Give the boys at J-tech in Caversham a ring mate, tell them I (Oli) told you to ring. They have guys who can sort this out I think.
Cheers Oli, emailed a few local places and if they dont respond then I will call J-tech.

Any machine shop should be able to sort that out for you .
It would seem that the brackets though are the original problem,if they were 1mm taller it would save the messing around.
Hope you get sorted.

@optical did you get this sorted?

You can get ready-made shims exactly for this. They're essentially very thin penny washers sold in 0.1mm, 0.25mm, 0.5mm etc thicknesses. Place them between the hub & bracket (to move the calliper laterally like in the picture below) or between the bracket & calliper (to move the calliper radially).

Usually get a box of them with high end motorsport callipers to get the most symmetrical fit possible (maximise pad wear, minimise hot spots on the disc etc during long stints)

Much cheaper than taking 2mm off every set of discs you buy :tongueout:

http://race.parts/ in Wallingford are worth a call for this sort of stuff. I've seen them supplied with Brembo rebuild kits too, @George@RTR_Parts ?

If it was my road car, I'd probably just hunt around for some thin penny washers providing they are as wide as will physically fit (wide shims + correct bolt torque = structurally stiff calliper assembly)
