Just sent an email to reg transfers to see what they will give me for my original registration LL04EVU, doesnt mean anything to anyone but they must be able to offer me something surely?

I'm interested in R77 CUP which is going for £189 before transfer fees so all in all will be about 260 ish I would have thought.

Has anyone sold a reg with pretty much no meaning/recommend a reg company? Are the DVLA anygood?


Any info appreciated.

The reg company don't buy them mate, they'll just advertise them and then pay you for it once it sells.

I suppose they may buy really good registration marks, but not generic reg's.

In all honesty you'll struggle to sell that one, and remember that you won't have any use for the 'Cup' one when you change cars...

Umm, put the new plate on, then put the old one (original one) back on when you sell the car, or just sell it with the CUP plate on it.

As you have mentioned, standard plate will be worth nothing and so no point in selling as it will be put back on your car when you take your private plate off. Are you sure £189 comes out at £240 with transfer fees and VAT, usually more like £370?

No one said 240. The plate is 189 and the dvlatransferfee is 80. I suppose there will be vat on the plate so im probably looking at 300 but no more than that.

I won't be selling the car so i thought i'd try my luck with getting some funding for the new plate.

Random people have said it looks like I love you. It's got to be better than having RK56PWF or some crap like that?

Oh well, just have to wait and see what santa brings me.

yup it's on the DVLA, All Reg Transfers will do is buy it from DVLA and then up the cost selling it on to you.

No hidden fees with DVLA either.

Now now ladies, jsut buy the plate off DVLA, you will save money, keep your original plate as you will get no money for it.

Also to say your not going to sell your car hence selling the original plate, trust me one day you will grow up and see a world of cars beyond the Clio.

I was fully aware that the DVLA sold the plate and at a much cheaper rate.

And if the world fell off its axis and regtransfers said "good morning sir yes we would love your crap, generic, nonsensical, revel-like plate" then I would have struck up a deal.

People fail miserably to ask first take the pi$$ later, espicially the youngsters.


As for selling the car; being 31 and quite happy with the fact that I've kept my licence since my last ban I can assure you that this car is going to be tracked one day so I categorically guarantee that when the time has come to buy another motor then the 182 will retire to being a track weapon and probably get treated better than the wife. (remember Homer and his motorcycle?)

As that means the plate dies with the car, essentially. So if someone wanted the reg of the car, they couldnt do that, purely because the original was sold.

So i believe this cannot be done, maybe im wrong but im under the impression it cannot be done.

Bit like me selling my R reg to someone, putting a Private say E reg on it, then selling the car with the E reg.
Someone then sells the regi plate on, and has to put the old R reg back on, but cant as someone else owns it because technically two cars hold a plate that belongs to one car.
I dont believe this is possible.

Once you put a private plate on your car, the old plate no longer belongs to that car. It becomes available for sale. Should you wish to remove your private plate, you can get your old plate back if it hasn't sold. If it has, you get another plate with the same date marker. I still have my original plates for the Clio in my garage, on the offchance that when I remove my private plate, I'll get the old reg back.
