NEW to the forum. 172 help....please!!!

Hi Everyone,

I have noticed a few newbies to the site who are asking similar questions, but I wanted some advice and help if anyone has a spare few moments.

I am upgrading from a corsa sri and am looking at getting a 172 (silver or blue) for approx £5500. I think I will be aiming at around the 40,000 miles mark for a 52 to 03 model (ish)

The main concern I have is the running cost (mainly fuel)
I currently drive around 220 per week which costs me about £32.
The journey is around 4 miles in and round town(s) and 10 miles dual-carriageways (twice a day) so quite 'combined' lets say..

could anyone indicate how theyre fuel bills look at around this kind of mileage as i have costed everything so far and the clio will cost around £25 per week more than my corsa.

also any recommendations of cars (or links to interesting reads on the forum)

If anyone has read this far THANK YOU.....!!!!

I look forward to your responses and thanks in advance.

-Mark

cheers for the reply riz.

good about the fuel. thanks for the link too, problem is i dont want a red 172, or a cup (definately want the climate control and leater/alacantra seats etc)

what mpg you looking at if your a bit heavy on the ol' right???

Yeah id say in the Phase one its very frugal for what it is.

I would have to say its not a kick in the balls off 300 miles to a tank.

If you cane it your looking at 200-230 to a tank

I left Clio ownership thinking the running costs were too high... spent 3 months with a 1.8T VW and now I'm back with a Cup.

For the performance you get, the economy is actually very good.

they are good mpg for what they are,

BUT a full tank is now costing about £55 - £60

i get about 260 from a full tank combined driving

whats that about 22p per mile, i would say that was fairly typical, so work it out from that

so at 200ish miles per week i'd be looking at £40-45 per week on fuel. that aint too bad. only 8-10 more than i get at the moment.

(although it does add up to like £2000 for the year......nice)

thanks for all your comments guys.

i spose its apply for the loan time then!!!!

(if anyone is selling a 172 silver (not cup) and lives within 40miles of good old glos PM me)

thanks again.!!!!

  clio trophy No56
I drove from Littlehampton to Newcastle on a full tank when i picked the Trophy up, 345 miles, about 290 of the 345 were on the motorway.
Door to door my trip computer says im getting 34.2mpg.
Motorway if i reset the computer its normally about 45 to 50mpg.
Combined driving in the real world, not the trip computer, a would say i get about 300mile per tank.
Get a blue 172, i would have said the cup but if you want CC etc then thats out of the question.
Which ever u go for u will love it, there all mint. Enjoy.

cheers scott. obviously there would be fun involved, but driving to and from work i'd take it as steady as possible (unless ive had a bad day lol. then it would be foot down all the way)
i do like the blue, but ive always wanted a silver car. and would like a cup for the weight-loss, but would want the CC and leather etc.

thank again!!!

i get 32mpg out my 172 every day, thats driving nice and easy about town and when ive got my girlfriend in the car and hammering its wee nuts in when im out for a blast which is quite regularly!

good thing about these cars is you get the fuel economy of your average petrol car when taking it easy, but when your going for it, the performance of a powerfull turbo car!
