I found a circular crack on top of the windscreen near the mirror, and plan to get a replacement soon
Is the OE screen worth the 300+ quid I was asked for or should I get an aftermarket one at half price?
If so what aftermarket brands do you recommend?
Thx!
Get a local window fitter to get one from a scrappy and fit it for you.
We did this on our 182, although as we had a 172 with a year old screen we were just about to scrap he used our own screen but he only charges about 40 quid more if he supplies the secondhand screen.
Aftermarket windscreens in most cases are OEM straight from the supplier. We organise buying and fitting for less than half the cost of OEM using genuine stuff.
I believe in some cases a small manufacturer stamp is the only difference, same with headlamps. I buy Ford ones without the Ford stamp sometimes for half the cost. (There are of course proper pikey aftermarket lights and body panels out there)
very few rs clios around here to go searching for a used screen I know there are few other good brands that make compatible windscreens with auto-lights/wipers compatibility as well, just don't know what brand to choose
I'm in the same boat, 2" crack at the bottom of the screen. I contacted Autoglass they said they wouldn't do it unless it was though insurance company. As they have to much work on. So if anyone has any other options. Won't going though your insurance damage your no claims?
