next gen rumours/news/facts

  Evo 5 RS
Sweet, thought as much. Wonder if Sony will behave this year and give an accurate representation of what it's capable of ¬_¬

There's plenty of speculation on places like neogaf that there'd be a complete shitstorm if they pulled that move again.

They pulled all kinds of crap mate. Nobody was ready for the platform, and in the given time frame they had it wasn't really ready for any expo, was a nightmare. The expo was mainly pre-rendered scenes and none of it was real time.

Also when they did the first MGS 3 sequence it was being run on a high end PC backstage! Naughty

so they blagged it basically and lied?

i had heard about the playstation 4 and new xbox being announced but then i found the article I posted

Flol - quality.

That said, I'm genuinely interested to see what comes of the next console offerings. Hopefully this will kick-start the cross-platform games market to a new level of development and hardware demands.

For a consoler's perspective, I hope better hardware allows them the opportunity of things that PC players take for granted. Like 64-player maps, further draw-distances in the graphics and reduction in the jaggies.

They need to seriously cut the loading times on the next gen consoles. Skyrim is awful; makes me not want to open a door because of it.

Out of interest just how long do you think current gen hardware can possibly carry on for as the lead platform for both Sony and Microsoft? It's all very well quoting that article but applying some reason to the whole situation an E3 announce with most likely an early 2013 release makes pretty sound sense. The Wii U has already been announced and as shown by the PS3 if you don't respond to other hardware releases to keep yourself top of the pile or relevant then you damage your sales in the process and allow competitors the opportunity to get their box under your target audiences TV instead of yours.

Hopefully most of the titles on the 360 will be backwards compatible!

Remember reading around the 360 launch time that Microsoft wanted to have it for ten years before releasing a new console?

Exciting though. Should be fairly priced like the last launch too!

Kinect in every box?

  Monaro VXR
Well the 360 could still be out for 10 years in total. When a new system comes out they don't cut the old one off. It is phased out over time. I mean the PS2 still has not been discontinued as it is still selling well in some markets.

They pulled the plug on the original xbox when the 360 arrived but this time round I can't see that happening. I'd expect a price drop and possibly lower initial selling price on 360 games vs the newer hardware titles. I'd imagine this will be the tactic for for PS3 and 360 as there will still be a market for them especially given that some people have not long bought in to the current gen of hardware.

Can't wait to hear more about these next gen consoles, nintendo doesn't do anything for me and neither does xbox, it's the sony offering I will be buying regardless of the competitors spec sheet.

I was exactly in this mind frame with the PS3 until it was delayed!

I just hope Xbox software is faster, the navigation around the guide is slowwwwww.

What a strange thing to say.

I can understand not wanting the nintendo stuff but the xbox and PS compete so closely you'd be mad not to consider them both.

Interesting times ahead... and 'speculative' technical specifications for the platforms seem quite interesting. I still long for Sega to return to the fold with a next-gen Dreamcast *sigh*

  CBR1000RR Fireblade
I will be waiting to see what happens, I'm not sure what to expect as I am finding different stories and info. Either way after the Xbox 360 taking over from the the wii and the ps3 I have, out of the three I will be buying the next gen Xbox only this time I reckon.

As long as they don't rush production this time so that nearly every f**ker has to RMA it because of dry joins everywhere...f**king bad that. OK so it's got f' all games but at least the PS3 worked for the most part lol.

  RIP Dan
About time for some new kit, the current offering seems to have been around for years!!

To me anyway.

Would be nice to see some totally new off the wall games.

My ps3 has been the most reliable console I've had. It's a launch edition backwards compatible 60 gb console that around 5 / 6 years old. It has had 100's hours of abuse but has only crashed 3 times since I've had it. All three were down to dust building up in the vents, simple fix with a bit of hoovering :)

  none :(
I dunno which console i would buy, always been a ps fan, until mine almost died, traded it in for an xbox, which im enjoying - faster downloads, and a better online experience.
will be interesting to see what both consoles offer

Problem Is if like me you are an occasional gamer. I used to fond everytime I went to use it my live had expired. This gets quite tiresome.

  Bus w**ker
More than likely I'll go with the new Xbox (because the PS3 was and still is a pile of s**t) but I wouldn't rule out the Playstation...or both like I have now. Nintendo can GTFO though.

Trouble is m8 - one of the most acclaimed titles that Sega 'released' in recent months is Shogun 2. I just don't see consolers buying that in droves? :) I'm assuming that Sega has completely removed any interest in hardware these days?

Yes mate - Sega withdrew from the hardware sector many years ago and have no plans now (or in their future roadmap) for getting back into the home console market in terms of producing a new console. The plan was to ramp up their software / games output with novel new gaming concepts as well as committing to keeping alive their big name titles (such as Sonic). I don't think it's quite worked out as planned unfortunately. But I live in hope... LOL! :D
