Not anything i've heard before...

I went to pick up my new clio the other week but have only just got round to writing this up...
So anyway, I went and viewed it, it was great took it for a test drive everything way fine, got back to the seller and they said 'I will also chuck in an aftermarket radio seen as there isn't one in there at the minute' to which i thought was very generous.
When i went back to collect the car, I got halfway down the road when i looked down to see the speedo was not working. U-turns was made.
They spent an hour looking under the hood and playing about with different sensors at which point they said they weren't sure what was happening and they could bring the car to me the next day when the auto-tech had been in to have a look.
I received a phone call the next saying that the problem had been resolved and that it was the radio that was stopping the speedo from working??
Now i know very little of car electrics but something didn't sit right with me but i thought 'fudge it' the speedo is working i'll just whack my radio that i have in when i get home. I put it in and the speedo worked absolutely fine, which got wondering... I was wondering if any of cs have heard of anything like this before?
I asked my uncle about this who owns his own garage who also hadn't heard anything like this before either and his only thought was that in some cars the faster you go the louder the radio gets...

Also haven't heard anything like this, in my old metro the spedo used to flicker like crazy between 20-40mph, I just put it down to the car being a heap of sheet.

if you mess up the wriring in mk4 golfs it can screw with central locking

Yh i'm from ripley and oh right not far at all then. I bought the from suttoncolfield at a small garage that specalise in renault. Haha well as soon as any other radio is in it seems to work fine, so i have no idea what was going on with that one.

I'm not sure if you car will be driven off of the ABS or the gearbox sensor, but whichever one, a simple clean of that sensor could have fixed the issue, at least temporarily

They tried this, it still didn't work. This is why it confused me.

Pin 1/2 cant remember which off top of my head is speed pulse, if the stereo they fitted has a mute pin in it at that pin (was it jvc by chance) then it will cut out the speedo

hmm i kind of get the gist of what you are saying fair enough, and It was an LG stereo. Thanks, i just wanted to see if it was not a cover for something else.

Yep LG did it as they dont come with an ISO harness all the pins go straight into the back of the stereo therefore your problem

they disconnected the sppedo sensor to stop the mileage going up ?
