Ok to lower clio on just springs ?

  Clio_Smart
Will 60mm lowering springs damage my car on standard shocks ?

Thinking of lowering my car and thought of just adding springs.

Mk2 Ph1

  Breaking A 172 Replica
I have just dropped it 50mm

Handles better although it is bumpy.

Some roads I just can't gun it down as the car becomes too unsteady.

As for the shocks - they do wear quicker but who cares...many people give them away for free on here.

The everywhere man again?!! ^^^

Anyway, going that low won't do your shocks much good and they will definitely be hard worked. You'll be lucky to get much more than 6 to 8 months more out of them, but hey you may be lucky.

If you do go for any type of drop get Eibach Sportlines. If its a 1.2 you have you'll get a good 50mm drop and they are better than most other springs out there.

Ok so they do damage the shocks after a lenghty period about 8 months.

After that just replace your shocks.

When your shocks are really worn how will i know.

Also what damage will happen after the shocks are worn to as much as they can be and i carry on driving on them ?

Its my first car modded mk2 ph1 and i dont really want to buy coilovers for it so im thinking springs.

Are shocks cheap and easy to replace ?

Basically am i ok to do this about a 40mm drop ?

Finally websites please for good springs

Thanks

i think if your not going for dampers a 30-40mm drop would be best for handling and will look pretty good to it depends what your aiming to achieve really. If you went for just -60mm springs you would get a firm ride but would become bumpy and unstable at times. As for shocks if you do go for -60mm and the time comes that the shocks are worn it would be just as cheap to fit aftermarket items. But just remember its not only the shocks you are putting extra strain on things like wishbones, track rod ends, ball joints will all feel the extra strain. Stick to -40mm imo would be best all round

i believe the sportlines will drop a non rs clio -50mm and drop an rs clio 20-30mm because it already had a lower stance

40mm drop (Apex) on standard shocks for me - 50K miles (40K lowered) with no problems at all

bit crashy tho!

I put the sportslines on my 1.2 16v. Was expecting around 40mm drop. Sold as 45mm drop, box quoted 50mm drop. When fitted actual drop was 25-30mm:dapprove:

Som i am best with a 40mm apex drop eben though it may come up a little higher 30mm drop ?

Then that way im not doing hardly any damage to my car.

Website to buy springs please.

I have 15" dynamique alloys i just think as other members have said it will look much better lowerd.

Yes, couldn't fault the ride....quality springs. If I didn't have FK's on my 172 i'd would defo go for Eibach Sportsline again....maybe with Koni adjustables.;)

I have been down the road of lowering cars, fair enough, the handling improves but makes the back end a bit skitty... minuses are;- uncomfortable ride on long runs, sleeping policemen can cause damage to your baby and if you don't fit camber correcting bolts your tyres get scrubbed... If you are doing track days then yes, but for everyday use, no.
IMO

Normal ride height will do for me, especially with the state of our roads.

It's all down to personal choice

dont forget your spring clamps!!!! dont want the spring shooting off into orbit

just fitted eibach pro kit to mine approx 30mm drop, keein an eye on my shocks thought especially on the back as that is where they will wear the most
