Painting Alloy Wheels

Ok so I basically know what im doing in the respect of actual painting. I'm just stumped on protecting with Lacquer.

I have Matte Black paint to paint my wheels but obviously you have to protect them right? So you have to lacquer them, but obviously with Lacquer it would make it shiny and obviously... Matte Black paint isnt suppose to be shiny ;)

How do I go about that problem then? Or is it ok to leave un lacquered?
