phase 1 172?'s thanks for looking!!

  172
ok so i have had alot of cars 28 in total this is 29 i believe,

I have always wanted a clio sport but never took the plunge and opted for other things!!

best cars i have had to date performance wise i would say is accord type r, leon cupra 20vt, golf gti-t, corsa redtop, toyota altezza rs200, fiesta rst

i would say the accord was by far the best performance well actually probably the redtop corsa tbh, but i am even more impressed by this 172 it feels absolutely manic!!

basically just wanting some inspiration of where to go as this is the first car i really do want to keep so pics - mod routes etc etc will be very much appreciated. As if i get my job in january im seriously considering a megane sport think its rs250 or something or a new clio sport and track daying the little phase 1 or complete restoration project and garage - do you think the phase 1 will ever go up in value like rst's cosworts etc im new to the world of renault but majorly impressed with the performance bang for buck to any other

thanks for reading Will

They're 11+ year old mass produced Clio sheds. No chance of them going up in value anytime soon, if at all.

For everything else use the search and read through project threads, been covered to death. Buy one, drive it, enjoy it, break it, fix it again and then rinse and repeat until you get bored or run out of money.

  V6 255, 172's, JCW,
Welcome to Clio Sport Will, and congrats on your new purchase!

Personally, I think good ph1 172's will, in time, start to appreciate in value. If for no other reason, they are the first of the Renault Sport branded Clio's and so have an element of kudos linked to them. The start of all things Renault Sport as far the vast majority of Joe Public recognise the marque. (Which reminds me Will, its a Renault Sport Clio, NOT a Clio Sport ;) ) From the launch of the 172, it took Renault another 3 or 4 years to produce the Renault Sport Megane, and later still the Twingo.

This.
Maybe in 20 years when there's only about ten left that aren't in the scrapper - but the next ten years or so - forget it.

Can't see them appreciating, but they have so much character!

I used to hate the look of a Ph1 compared to the Ph2. I still like the Ph2 but the Ph1 is such a little lunatic it's hard not to love them. Just clean it up, they're fine as they come. Although I would put solid mounts on the struts and engine if I had to replace mine again for the extra cash.

if you look at getting one of the plaqued models youre more likely to see some appreciation!!

ie. ph1 exclusive
ph2 Trophy

  Mk1 16v brooklands
ph1 ftw, ve owned my exclusive for just over a year now, and i love it. even though the engine needed replacing after 2k. i wasnt impressed but love it again now even when i do have a few problems here and there

IF I ever get another 1*2 it'll be a non silver phase 1.

I cant see any of the 1*2's going up in value. Maybe in 10 / 15 years time people will fork out £5k or so for a mint trophy (like with the Williams now) but I reckon the majority will just hit the £1k mark and stay there.
