Ah so thats how those shims go.

You don't happen to have a caliper handy to measure the thickness of the shims? ;)

  Ph1
Ooops, totally missed it  lol

Hope to re-fit my old Pipers sometime this year so will have a hunt in the washer box and see if there is anything similar sized. Not that they rattled anyway but might help preserve wear?

Maybe worth giving Piper a call and say you had them fitted but removed them due to issues not having the shims and would they honour you with a shim kit?

Look to be pretty good value. Is there an exchange surcharge on send your old cams back or is it an outright sale?

Also how safe would it be to run these without a remap? would need to get the car over to the UK to have it mapped but wouldnt be able to do this straight away.

£312 and send your old cams to Piper, they send them back within 10 days or so.

As for how safe on a standard map I don't know. I'm going to see how it runs on 98ron remap.

I know Paul at RS tuning can supply and map these but to keep costs down on mapping, travel and as I already have an rs tuner I was tempted to do a custom map through Fastchip.

Not to bad, have plenty of cams lieing about.

Yeah i was thinking about fastchip custom map as its a lot of hassle and expense for me to get over to the UK. Not sure how good they will be though?

I need to email Henk and ask a couple of questions about it. From what I understand you do the same as you would taking it somewhere to be mapped anyway, but maybe spend less time on it so you don't get the absolute maximum out of it.

I'll be doing my logs at the local RR so I can monitor things and make sure I get what I need.

Cool, although by the time you do that, then send the data then get back the new files and need to test them and possibly do the same again it could potentially end up expensive, depending on how much the rollers cost you each time.

I'm lucky and the rollers aren't a problem. I'll email Henk as what I want to clear up is whether he will adjust the map once or if you send it back for fine tuning.

well seen as iv'e kept it quiet about plans of having these put in my cup i can now report that they've been fitted and mapped, it's really gave the car more get up and go.
Mine has always been a bit of a strong one but it's a different kettle of fish now with these fitted it goes like a scalded cat and can also report the shims seem to have sorted the mentioned noise from these cams, absolutely worth every penny it cost to get these fitted and mapped....

Would i do it again??? ABSOLUTELY!!!

cheers once again to DAN @ 519 for making it happen

  DON'T SEND ME PM'S!!
Most under rated cams going and a total bargain.

always were a good profile (piper are very good at this on a lot of enignes) but now they've fixed the rattle it's a big deal. Results were outstanding, better than I could have predicted

  DON'T SEND ME PM'S!!
not massively different, torque is better with 421s/438s but not by a huge margin. Horsepower curve is remarkably similar

Yeah it was 2 you mate, for the price they're a bargain tbf and I was shocked with the figires during the mapping. Will happily take people for a quick blast if they're near and I'm free at the time

Who can supply these cams?

You can buy direct from piper at 289 plus vat (its a regrind so you have to send yours off) but IIRC mike@mwm can do them a bit cheaper than that if he is fitting them and has the exchange cams already in stock so no need to send yours off first.

He's back from Africa in just over a week I believe.
