pissed off

just wanna stress my anger with my valver

just when i want to get it ready to sell it pays me back with all my years pampering her by gradually going wrong.sods law i guess

so annoyed at moment

not only was what i thought a simple speedo cable to fix the speedo not working it turned out to be a worse case scenario,

the bloody speedo drive in the gearbox had seized, so

today i payed £100 for new speedo cable and fitting

on wednesday booked in for new speed drive and three hourse labour another £185 just to get the speedo to work

so glad to be getting rid of it now

right now

I HATE FRENCH CARS ESP MY CLIO valver

just had to get that off me chest

Mines going - just bought new box/clutch/springs/timing sensor/plugs/leads/oil/clutch pedal/clutch cable, and now its stalling without warning.....

Really cant be bothered with it anymore....was nice whilst it lasted...about £1.5K ago...

Thats funny, I also own a Valver, and also know exsactly how you feel! Infact i reckon everyone on here who has owned a Valver for over 2 months, will know how you feel.
Kick the tyre! Go On, i Guarantee it will feel good. I do it all the time. ThuD!

Group Hug to ease the pain.

yh dont it just

except will16v seems to of had it worse than most valver owners. urs still not fixed then mate. i bet its something simple, its jst a specialist car where normal mechanics cant seems to work on them,

u know what i feel like driving it intoa wall VERY VERY HARD

almost three years ownership, been wicked for races. real exclusive when i first bought it. but now i dont know why i put with it for soooo long. longest run where i aint had to fix something is probably 6 months. otherwise it was always somethinmg stupid going wrong somewhere, but i guess its cos its a car i used day in day out all the time

i know a lot of valver owners feel the same, very expensive car when they go wrong. but they really are awesome hot hatches when they going right

u got a willy engine too now have u dust

i would of went that route if i were to keep it

just cant be bothered anymore

even if i get peanuts for it its gotta go,

I know, i need mine for work and gets used every day of the week, thats probably why - only got mine back on wednesday from the garage and it started doing the same thing again this morning - some dodgy connection to do with the renix ignition thing or somthing....

was gonna buy another car to use as a run around but, the valvers had its day, its got 95k on the clock - so its either off to a good home to be pampered as a second car, or off to a nieve person who will drive it to its death...

Been driving me g/fs pug 205 1.4 j plate for 6 weeks - 20 quid a week petrol, it let me down once - the starter knackers - got one from the scrap yard and fitted it myself wittin 50 mins!!!!

But, the valver is something special, second only to the williams in hot hatch territory - just dont have time for it anymore..

Nah its 1800. I thought the F7P was my engine. May be wrong. But ive had the car 6/7 months and spent over 2k keeping it on the ropad. I think ive had the worst luck ever! Box/Clutch/Clutch Cable/Clutch Pedel/Alternator/Battery/Cam Belt/Aux Belt/Power Steering Hose/Fan/er think thats it.....To Do List of...Wheels Bearings/Power Steering Rack/ and probably more. Hope it makes you feel a bit better. Considering youve had the car 3 years, 6x longer than me!

oh thats right. sorry got the f7r and f7p confused, see i should of known that but being sooooooo pissed off im not thinking straight

compared to some of u notably will16v and dust i aint had it that bad, mine still on origional box that still smooth and dont jump out of gears but if id just bought the car and had to do what some u lot had to do straight away i would of set first to my car lol

mine has new everything exept the box which is prob why i wanna sell before that goes too. just cant take now more

ive already lined up a new car to drive around in till i can afford what i want

a nice little mk3 fiesta, no rust . new box, new clutch new tires. new wheel bearing. full history 80k, years mot years tax , 5 door 1100cc should cost me feck all ro run all for 500 notes.

should be able to make some money on this car too

ive had my valver 21 months, bought it with 27k on the clock, it now has a little over 50k so im sure all these problems are gonna start creeping up on me! touch wood ive had one wheel bearing and thats it! no other problems!

my dad said he was talking to a chap at work today, who used to race clios, and has a little place in Wednesbury west mids, and said if i had any probs to come down and said would look at any problem cus they know how to fix most of em!

She doesnt want to leave you and is paying you back for getting rid of her.

;)

derv

beleive me the little reno breakdown bug will hunt u down eventually.

i was fixing my car when i first got it but slowly got it up to tip top condition. but its cost me money and time keeping it like that

damn thing

think after 80k the problems slolwly creep in and come one after another,.

those who dont have problems are the ones that dont use the cars all the time,

but saying that a lot ofcars on here are well over 100k now and still going strong, three spring to mind. aaronc benj and benh and benr , all high mileages valver going better than car with half there mileage

Yep, mine going strong and no probs for ages. touch wood. been out in it all week now and going fine.

Me and benr just changed the ECU on it and got 70mph in 2nd and 100mph in 3rd gear!

My Valver is on 101,000 miles now and runs sweeter than ever. But it wasnt always like that.

I bought it on 78k and I can see from the history that it was a "problem car" right from the start - new lambda sensor at 20k, snapped clutch cable at 50k, snapped cambelt at 72k, dead TDC sensor at 76k and lots more I cant remember now! When I bought it, the extra power it made after the engine rebuild (I presume) ripped through the diff and gbox casing and I had loads of other problems after I lowered the car too.

But as soon as these were sorted and the car hit about 90k, it was just fine. I keep hearing about problems with gboxes at 60k and so on, but mines still fine and the car is faster than ever, minter than ever and starts every time.

I think my Valver is rewarding me for pampering it. Ive always had every problem sorted, got rid of the nasty bad boy aftermarket wheels, treated it to some refurbished Phase2 wheels and had it sprayed here and there so there are no stone chips etc.

I do about 10-15k miles a year in the car. Sometimes I dont use it for months, sometimes I use it for 1000 mile journeys.

totally agree. the high milers are the ones to go for. im now on 118,000 + and its fine. i get the obvious wear n tear on bits. but nothin major for ages and its never let me down, not started, not got me home etc..

it seems that theyre very much like the 19 16v. Lovely car, plenty of go but when it comes to do any work on them its "engine out time". And also whenever you have a little job done it always costs £100.

When i was looking for a new car i wanted another 19 but couldnt be bothered trying to find a mint, loved valver so went for the trouble free cost you an arm and a leg still, new car option.

High mileage Valvers have usually had all the problems that are going to come up and have had them sorted. Theyre the next best thing to finding one with really, really low miles in many respects.

There can be really very few cars that are only fit for only 45k miles. Modern component durability is well into the hundreds of thousands. Volvo used and still use lots of Renault engines, transmission and ancillary parts without mishap. Smoothed Clio and I were stood in a traffic jam for hours the other day in our Valvers on the way to a meet and our cars were 100%. There were loads of cars on the hard shoulder (like 50+) that had overheated. I took note that they were mainly BMWs, Toyotas and Hondas! Not a single French car.

It boils down to the fact that cars like the Valver are hot hatches and are driven hard. They, like the 172, Willy, CTR etc, are essentially cheap cars, as are most of the components. Some parts, like the engine block, have a practically infinite shelf life, but other bits will wear. As a bike mechanic, I also know that if I replace one bit of a system (e.g. sprocket), its a good idea to replace the rest of the components as they will never work well together again. Sadly, I cant afford to do that with cars!

Had the same feelings with french cars b4.. felt like just torching my old 106 at times it was costing so much to keep running...

The worse thing is that when they work there great.. just when there not u wanna burn em!!!

I have a feeling ill be saying the same thing about my 172 one day....... oh well, best enjoy it while it lasts ;)

P.S This is my 100th POST! YAY

The engines in the clio 16vs/1916v and williams are very strong. If well maintained, they can go for galactic mileage.

Ive just stripped a 200k williams engine and I can not believe the lack of wear...not a mark on anything, no bore wear, no cam wear, nothing. Almost worth not replacing anything and just putting it back together, but now its apart, it will be getting new bearings and rings at a least.
