Porsche 911 Carrera S

  Turbos.
Went down to the Porsche centre at Silverstone for a fitness assessment, which was a perfect excuse to take the new car for a long trip to get to know it!

It is a Carrera S, but a tiptronic. I tried the PDK which was awesome, and much more performance orientated. Second hand ones are barely on the market though so wasn't really an option. The manual is clearly better, but once i'm done with it the car will probably go to someone else in the company (all the managers are fat and lazy...). Anyway, some photos.

Engine bay just looks odd! The power pack version is a bit smarter TBF.

Interior is very germanic, high quality and very comfy. Options are pathetic though. Just about everything is extra.

Boot just about big enough for a short trip.

And some of the much more interesting cars outside and in the showroom...

Overall the Porsche is nice, the PASM ties down the front (normally they bob up and down) well. It has tons of grip, and should with the huge tyres. The gearbox is at odds with the rest of the car, as it's more 'sporty' than i thought it would be.

Tried getting ones from Porsche, but they don't do them. Likewise, you can't get front parking sensors or folding mirrors.

Biggest bugbear is that it has electric seats (an option) but doesn't have heated seats (also an option). Pretty measly on a car that cost over £80k new...

Drove my step dads 996 4s then his 997 2s have to say the 2 was nicer car to be in and had the Power pack fitted as well.. the exhaust note on that car was awesome!

Crates of beer fit in the *boot* quite well though mind ;)

Had it a couple of weeks now...

Yeah, would love the PSE as standard it sounds... meh. Engine note is ok, but just not loud enough. Will have the Elise ready soon to be my loud weekend car though.

Very nice, starting to get a soft spot for carrera's

If you're going PDK for the love of god get the paddleshift wheel. If you get an earlier car without it it can be retrofitted still. Makes a massive difference.

Have you been out on the tarmac playground there Rob?

LOL @ 'buggy thing' Facepalm.

Looks great! You're still a fag for getting a Tiptronic, but since it's you... :p

Were the ones before the revision, the versions with the upshift and downshift on the same rocker? LOL.

Yep!

Won't find me disagreeing with the box. The steering wheel mounted gearchanges are pointless. It's a proper auto, just doesn't feel right using them anyway. It's a nice cruiser...all i wanted it to be. Just a stop gap really. Wanted something nice that wouldnt depreciate.
