Problem with adjustable ARB

  Looking for 182
Hi all,

I fitted my group buy ARB at the weekend and WOW! It's amazing. My KTR coilovers haven't always inspired confidence in me but now it handles better than when I had Sportlines on (in my opinion)

Anyway, I had a look under the car today to check it was all ok and noticed that one of the brackets is bent.

So, firstly is this a problem. Secondly, what might have caused it? And lastly, if it is a problem what should I do about it?

Thanks

Mines done this too, was going to post but forgot.

Is it a worry?

How stiff you got it, I've got it 1 hole stiffer than medium each side.

I'd get stronger angle brackets like the whiteline ones, my whiteline never bent like that but I'd say they were at least twice as thick as that!

Edit - maybe not twice actually lol

My brackets are faced the other way round like this. L. Does that make any difference

It's on te medium setting.

How long has yours been like it?

Any more thoughts Fred?

Mine was fine for around 2 months, then i decided to stiffen it up a little to what I said from medium and then within a month its gone like that.

I wonder whether I just need to adjust it whilst it's sat on the ground with weight on the wheels. I'm worried the bracket will be weakend now if I knock it back into shape.

What do you think I should do? I don't suppose it's possible to buy stronger brackets on their own.

Bit crap as it's only a few days old :(

I've pm'd the guy who organised the GB, I want to say his name is dave, but not 100% and made him aware of this thread.

What metal is it?
It won't be hard to have someone weld two little brackets on it either side to make it more rigid

Thanks very much. Nice to know I'm not alone, perhaps if it's a common issue they can provide some stronger brackets.

I'd agree, but I think my brackets are different to the one's everyone else got as they got lost in the post. But the guy who made them knocked some up quickly to get me going.

The manufacturers are top guys so I'm sure they will sort it out :)

Mine had a tiny triangle bit at the back, but it really is small

I did put my name down to start off with, but then I tought why am I going to pay more for one thats been made by some dudes rather than from a well know company like whitline who oviousely now what there doing...

The bar wasn't just made by 'some dudes'.

It was made by track developments iirc, who specialise in motorsport suspension/chassis iirc. And when the GB was on the whitelines were rare as rocking horse s**t.

bracket just needs some triangulation, which it appears others did, with that it wouldnt bend, so all would be well in the world...

Am pretty sure whitelines were almost impossible to get hold of when the GB started, which is why it was set up?

Thanks Tom. Unfortunately I'm skint at the moment so I can't even afford the petrol to get to you, let alone to pay for the work required to sort the bracket out :(

I've just seen this!

I'll get straight on to the engineers and get some brackets sorted out.
They definately shouldn't be moving and they were braced from what I've seen!

The Duck is right too, this was only set up because there were no whitelines in the country.

Anyone with problems or worries should pm me and I'll get it dealt with. Scary, it'll not cost you anything and I know they'll get straight on to it.

I'll post back in a moment when I've spoken to them!

I've just got off the phone from the engineers, they are going to make new, stronger brackets with more reinforcing.
I've sent them the link for this thread so they can see exactly what the issue is.
Obviously this won't cost anything.

Anyone who is concerned should get in touch with me and I'll get new brackets out to you.

Cheers, Doug

No problem mate,

They are as keen as anyone to get it resolved! I've still got your details too, so don't worry.
As soon as I know anything I'll post it here. But don't worry it'll be replaced and sorted.

Jenic has sent me a picture of his too, it's the same bracket and deflected the same way. Right hand wheel and bent downwards, have we been enjoying some roundabouts? ;)

Haha, perhaps :)

As mentioned in my opening post it handles amazingly well, I LOVE IT!!

I'm also getting a strange 'clunking' sound from the rear driver side of my car when turning hard and going over bumps (at the same time, or going over big dips in the road whilst in a straight line). This is the side with the bent bracket, could it be related?
