R26 VS 182

  renault clio
Is the R26 alot quicker? Just curious. Saw somone boot hteirs the other night and it looked really quick.

Don't want to start an argument just curious.

  Mk4 .:R32
but they weigh about 300kgs more so no they aren't much quicker but they are better built and more tuneable.

It's ok. I had a guy in front of me the other night and as soon as he saw me behing him he booted it and it went like a rocket. Could not give him a run for his money cos my sister was in the car with me and I don't like driving quick with people in the car.

LOL!

LSD - Limited Slip Differential.

Basically means that the diff can act as a fixed diff, or a standard diff depending on the torque difference between the wheels.

I've had a play with one in my 182 and wasn't much in it TBH.

Obviously some of this is attributable to driver ability etc but I was still gettin used to my 182 and (although flat out) sat on his tail.

I seemed to be able to carry more speed both in and out of the corners as well.

The above was on a private track of course ;)

The question you should be asking also is R26 vs R27?

My mate just bought a brand new Civic Type R (looks awesome, but don't think there'd be much in it between that and my 182). He said when he was looking at that, he'd looked at the R26, and apperntly all the verdicts say that the R27 (the Clio 197 R27 that is) was quicker and handled better than the bigger Megane, all be it with less power.

Swings and roundabouts. I know I'll be getting a Meggy when I have a family, but still young and single at the mo, so my 182 is the way forward!

On a track an R26 would kill a R27 or a 182.

Look what it does 2 that new golf gti and they aint shy.

Sorry, but not really sold it to me. The Golf GTI doesn't handle as well as a 182 (I know, i'm gonna get a slating for that one!) I have to admit I've surprised a few Golfs over the years with the 182. Yeah, in a straight line, they trounce me, but when it gets twisty, they're on the brakes while I go sailing through with only a slight lift-off.

It's all down to power to weight, and cornering capabilities. The R27 has a higher power to weight ratio, AND has less weight to throw into a corner. The R26 is probably lighter than the Golf, but I still think the R27 would give it a run for it's money (probably not much in it though!)

The one i'd like to see is a direct comparison of the 182 and R27 - give it to a good driver (Tiff or even the Stig), time them around a track, and that'd give the definitive answer to that question!

I don't think beating a lardy golf gti round a track is much of a challange to be honest.

They're not all that special TBH. Power to weight and agility are where it's at on a track and a golf aint that great in either of those areas (IMO of course) so not a great benchmark.
