Rear Brake Shoes........?

  Clio MK1 PH2 1.4RT
1994 1.4 Clio RT - VF1 B57BO5 II322571

Can someone please tell me what the part number is for the rear brake shoes that will fit my heap as I am having real problems on Ebay with finding what is affordable that looks like it will fit given year, engine size etc, to be told in emails I receive, they don't fit my vehicle to leave me thinking wtf ?

Also how can I use the registration and or VIN number to find parts that will fit, as really I would repair all that needs repairing if I was confident I could locate the correct part as really this is the most difficult car I have ever had for discerning what will fit, to make me think screw it, I won't do the repair.

And I would like to do the repairs as I have discovered a bargain basement, last a year, stop gap car I didn't expect to last has so far lasted 6 years in my ownership to discover it's a good car, one of the most reliable I have ever had and erm, touch wood, in six years of ownership it has never refused to start, but it does need repairs as everything surrounding the engine is falling apart.

Oh and affordable, because I am in that situation where I am looking for work, so, cash is tight and come on the car is 23 years old parts should be cheap if not clearance prices by now.

£23 on eurocar parts?

Not as cheap as that and grrr not again ;

There is more than one choice of part for your vehicle. Please select the correct 'Brake Shoes' by checking the 'Fitment Detail' tab'

to be back in that same position I find with ebay

I haven't got a clue what the specification of the brakes I have fitted is.

I mean, I am seeing there are two 1.4 listings ;

CLIO 1 (B/C57 , 5/357 ) 1.4 (B57J, C57J) 01.1991 to 09.1998 75hp
CLIO 1 (B/C57 , 5/357 ) 1.4 (B/C57T, B/C57Y ) 01.1991 to 09.1998 79hp

I haven't a clue which one my vehicle is, to give rise to the problems I am experiencing with locating and purchasing parts, where yes I know different horse power motors will likely have different component requirements to describe different parts for essentially what is the same vehicle save for engine power output, where I wonder if the different outputs are because of catalyser issues, if in which case......

How can I find out which of the two my vehicle is

find out a chasis number? I can have a look for you if you can find it. For example, clio williams is c57m and Clio 1.8 16v is c57d. If you can find it Il take a look on dialog's for you

Hi

According to the registration document, the VIN/Chassis/Frame number is VF1 B57B0511322571 of which corresponds with the dot matrix number on the o/s suspension turret, as to the c57m, c57d malarkey, all I have in number/letter combinations that may be similar is what is on the stamped alloy plate under the bonnet on the O/S of which reads;

B57B
25 720 OKB
3J 963 E3
FO60442

And another number that is not repeated anywhere on the left hand side of that plate ; 045 1303V

Thanks

Does your car have ABS?

There should be 2 or 3 different sizes of shoes. If you can find sizes then I'm almost certain you're looking for the wider shoes with a smaller diameter. IIRC the two options are 180mm and 160mm diameter (roughly).

I've just been through the exact same with a 52 plate 1.2 and it was a pain in the arse finding the right ones!

Take the old ones off, go down to europarts and compare the different ones they have available for your reg

well according to dialogys, if you have no abs, and the drums are lucas/girling then the part number for the shoes should be 7701204216

No, no ABS, where really the only option I believe is available to me at this point, is to take the shoes off and physically measure them, but I can't do that until the 30mm socket turns up - scheduled to be at some point early next week, where I was hoping to have ordered the shoes and fitting kit at the same time as the socket to get the job done in a short a time as possible - between rain showers as I have no cover for working on the car.

I wasn't aware there was a local depot, but it might come to that if I can't make any sense of what should be fitted to the car from the supplied numbers. But I notice there is a local depot, well local - ish about five miles away and on no bus route, but no other transport, I will have dig my old mountain bike out and see if I can not kill myself on either the four Devon hills or the rather fast free for all country road in between.

No, no ABS but what drums, I am aware there were two types where I believe the slave cylinder mounting bolts are indicative where mine has two mounting bolts, where what cylinder that is I have yet to discover where one hopes that discovery will define what manufacture the rest of it is to hopefully find the right part at last, so I can order and get the job done.

But these ' dialogs ' are they available online for future reference as I am still clueless how to discern what parts my vehicle needs from the identity numbers supplied.

But thanks

As far as I'm aware mate there's only one non-ABS type you can get. What you could do is measure the outside diameter of the drum itself. It'll let you know the size at least. If there's more than one set available though with differences in the mounting points for the shoes inside the drum then waiting until you can get them off is probably the best bet

So it would seem the best I can do at this point is to wait for the socket to turn up to get the drum off for a look see and measure without disturbing anything or at least giving it a clean to perhaps discover what's causing the noise I hear from that quarter on braking ( It's not a squeal - more a grinding noise or even chattering, where braking performance is not affected ), where I even hope there might even me a number stamped into the shoe backing to identify what should be in there, but otherwise, diameter and thickness of shoe would be useful.

Incidentally I tried the part number you supplied out on a general web search to find plenty of offerings and at good prices too, to when dialing in my vehicle information where that option was available to get the report ' this part does not fit your vehicle ', but I do seem to remember from years back trying to find another part, in fact a radiator fan motor to discover a Renault 19 fan was the same part number to now wonder at the mechanical connection between the R19 and my Clio for that part number you supplied also had the R19 connection.

ummm interesting, who would of thought a part could of been fitted to more than 1 vehicle.
