Recommend me a Pc with all the gubbins....

  Coiley'd Clio PH2
Im sort of bordering at the moment whether to buy one of these or not.
Might see if the father would like to go halves with me.

basically, what is best?
Are all PC's basically the same, just different pads that you can buy?
Do they have different functions?
what pads are used for what?
How do i use one?

I am a complete novice... an in depth guide would be excellent, wanna make sure i get the right stuff for it.

Cheers
Nick

This is a good starting point!!!! Could be seen as better than a PC as no 110V Transformer and lead needed.

^ the above is a good starter pac. The Yellow pads (cutting) are generally used for correction of swirl marks etc, and i would use the Intensive Poilish on that. Then, if you want a real clear finish follow that by using the Final Finish on a White pad (polishing)

Also get a 3" backing plate and a Yellow, and White pad to suit imo,

The no brainer choice to get these days is the Meguiars G220- UK machine with warranty, no need for transformer etc.

I would get it with Sonus SFX pad sets - both the full sized ones and 4 inch spot pads/ backing plate as they are a must for a Clio.

Pads:

Cutting - Paint Correction
Polishing - Lighter paint correction/Enhancing Gloss
Finishing - Further refining the finish, apply low or non abrassive products such as Glazes and sealants/wax.

Polishes wise look into Menzerna Intensive Polish and Final Finish(s)

As for using it worth reading up over on detailingworld and other sites on the net tbh.

Good basic read:

Cheers guys, that helps a lot.

How long does each pad last then?
Can they be washed/cleaned?

Ages!!! i've had mine since last May, and they are all still fine. Setve (sbv116) managed to bust a 4" pad, last year, but that was him being a hooligan tbh!!!! Yep, i just wash them in the sink, bit of Fairy lol. :)

I still have my original set of pads that are over 3 years old.

As above wash them after every use and all is fine.

I have killed the odd pad in between but not many.

theres a silverline polisher on ebay i think not bad price for somthing to start with - you can kill pads when you catch them on things like handle (well i do when mopping at work )

rich any chance you live nr shipton on stour?

Hiya mate, If you really want a pc then go for a G220, it has a Uk plug and is pretty good. I do find however they are not powerfull enough for my liking, i regret not getting a rotary in the first place, and i may sell the g220 and buy one instead due to the time it takes to complete a full car.

Theyre very usefull, in that its not just swirl removal you can do with them, application of wax or anything else you want is also very good, and you dont need to practise with a G220 with it being a dual action polisher, where as with a rotary its advisable to get a scrap pannel to see what the machine is capable of.

Ideally, you should go for the Sonus SFX range of pads, and the Menz set of polishes, i do strongly reccomend you spend the extra and get these. Take it form me, the meguiars pads are poor quality, and the #83 polish is full of fillers, ie. it can waste hours of your time.

This kit here:

http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/polis...220-complete-sonus-menzerna-kit/prod_479.html

I also reccomend you buy an extra Polishing pad (white sfx pad) and an extra Finishing pad (red iirc) as youll find one is not enough.

This aside, there is a guide located here (requirs you to sign up) which will give you lots of help and advice on PC'ing the car, and youtube has plenty of videos on how to use the G220, it is very simple though.

Hope that helps and gives you food for thought !

Have you got your rotary yet ?

It may be quicker to remove swirls, but getting and refining the finish with one is a whole new ball game.

lol no !

Some pads just tend to break up, mainly cutting type pads or firm polishing pads.

No i cannot afford it at the moment, and i know itll be an arse trying to get a perfect finish.

Whatever you decide to buy get it from Tim and www.cleanyourcar.co.uk possibly the most proffesional company I have ever dealt with!

Email him and badger him for a 7.5% discount.

Annoyingly for those wanting G220's we have a bit of a problem. Meguiars have typically sold out without telling us they were running low. So again we never got a chance to stock up.

The good news is the new batch are meant to have stronger internals and a smaller metal shield around the counter weight. These will be back in about 3 weeks.

Email him and badger him for a 7.5% discount.

No no please don't. It's virtually impossible for us to do as it's not an automated process. For each order you automatically get 5% in loyalty points against a future order and this really is all we can do especially on the kits which are already discounted. You'd be amazed how little we already make on G220's after overheads and the BIG chunk Gordon Brown takes!

I'm certain our overheads now are comparable to losing 15-20% before I even see anything and for the upfront investment we have to make it sometimes really isn't easy.

Tim's correct Megs UK have run out of stock again, spoke to them on Monday last week and was told that the next batch are on a boat from China and will take another 4 weeks! A few units were flown over but these are reserved for faulty replacments.

Guessing that Megs would run out again, I increased my stock orders and I'm pleased to say that as off Friday evening had 20+ machines in stock.

Although I expect these all to shift this week!
