182 from Renault, coz they are refusing to part exchange my Clio 172 because its an import, even tho its full UK spec.....swines!

hope Carselect dont feel the same

Exactly, I went to enquire about the 182 and asked about a part-ex on my 172 which is an import and they were willing to take it but they gave me a stupid figure ! Might ask for a quote at a different dealer on Monday when I have my service just to see what they say.

wasnt going to tell them where i got it from when they asked, but couldnt really lie, as its down on their database as an import

best quote so far was from Car Select at 7.6K tho they dont know its an import yet (

I was offered a stupidly low part ex price for my import when I looked at the 182....BUT the dealer keeps on ringing me and has upped the offer twice and reduced the price of the 182!!!



If I was to get a 182, Ill get another import

I would never buy a brand new UK again, no way ! Unless it was ridiculously cheap which I cannot see happening unless you know a member of staff.

I was still offered around £8000 as a rough idea for my 02 172, not too bad as I paid £8800 for it. I am sure I could get it higher if I pushed enough.

Why, its what its worth. He made that saving when he purchased it in the first place so its only fair that he gets less when part exchanging it. Youll loose out though as all these imports will devalue yours!!

Lee M I think your totally wrong there, just because he paid less for it doesnt mean that the car is worth less. All it means is that he hasnt paid ripoff reno dealers! exactly the same car. Alot of people have found that an import car is only worth 200 quid less than the same UK car.

dealers would close if everyone did it, thats why they wont touch them.

Im just being realistic, import owners shouldnt expect to get the same as a UK dealer supplied car.

Obviously it will vary dealer to dealer. Try them again at the end of the month when hes struggling to meet his targets then see what he offers!!

Come on Tom, they wont exactly go out of business now will they, theyll just have smaller margins. Some UK dealers have been alleged to have sold imports when they couldnt get hold of stock quickly enough.

When I bought my car this time last year dealer prices were way too high and weret even close to Import prices no matter how hard I pushed. In fact most wouldnt even give me the time of day, let alone sell me a car.

We all know the sort of margins they have there cars but at least over the last 12 months they have made some attempt to lower prices in line with other countries.

At the moment the price of a new UK car is close enough to an Import for me to pick the UK car. That wasnt the case 12 months ago.

*not that it matters as I now have a friend at Renault, now I just need to find one at Honda*

I think youd be daft to buy an import car now. Brokers can match if not beat the OTR costs of the importers, youll also loose less money on the car in the long run!

they took my import megane and didnt care, i even told themn it was an import

Trouble is UK Renault Dealers cant be seen to be selling/encouraging imports so any imported cars taken in p/ex will have to go to auction therefore youll be offered a poor value or be told to p!ss off. They will take it off your hands if they are desperate but I doubt youll get a good deal . You will get more selling privately. Wonder what theyll offer me for my UK Cup when I go to test drive the Megane RS later in the year...

Its not so much the fact that some dealers will take an import and some wont, its just the extra hassle that goes with it. I wouldnt want to be driving around in something I knew might be a nightmare to sell.

I dont blame people for getting import 172s, (thought very seriously about it myself) a couple of years ago that was the only way to get one for a decent price, theres no way Id ever buy one at list, but now the brokers are in on the act - youd be mad to get an import.

Having said that, I might consider a V6 on import because I think thered be a lot of demand for it used.

TBH if there were two cars side by side, you might as well risk taking a import after my experience of a UK spec car, Id rather have the money in the bank TBH
