Squeel from Brakes when in reverse

  Shhh
182..

Put it in reverse and full lock on, the front brakes squeel. As you ease the steering to the centre position it drops off. Once you go forward it goes back to normal, no noise, nothing. Brakes work fine.

Just steering in reverse, had the pads changed not so long ago. Brake disk wear was close to manufactures limits, tho nothing dangerous. Brake man in garage removed the edge of the disk, and advised me on KwikFit & Renaults policy on changing disks with pads when not needed etc.

Only other thing is i have that bouncing wheel thing when in reverse, suspect it to be a suspension mount or something but on the other side. No idea what can cause it to squeel only in reverse with lock on.

How do you know its " both " front brakes that are squealing ??

Could be a snapped rear suspension spring ?? Not uncommon on this model so i hear .

  Shhh
dont know, only noticed that i had the window down, on full left lock and the right was squeeling. If we have time later ill do it on the car park and get the gf to check which ones are doing it. Suspect i have the suspension mount fault aswell.

What am i looking for then mrbilly. Cant think of any reason why they would squeel on full lock......

I thought the calliper and disk moved fully with the steering system with the flexible hose therefore no option to cause it to perform this. Steering is stable under normal driving conditions and under braking.

All the brake assembly moves with the steering as you say .

Are you actually using the brakes when your reversing , or is it making the noise wether you use the brake or not ??

Is there any wear on the tyre like it could be rubbing ?

Rear springs have been known to snap , maybe if one has snapped and your reversing its causing the front end to rub ??

I had a similar problem a little while back, dealer said it was either the exhaust heatshield that may have warped and be rubbing (not sure if that applies to the 182), or the brake pads that needed changing.

Changed the pads and squeek went away.

^^^^^^^

Could even be just your new pads mate . Get some copper grease on the back of the pads !

The noise went, after the pads we're put on, it was the old ones being nearly worn out causing the noise.

  Shhh
Had new pads fitted 26th Jan, so suspect this is the issue then. Just unsure how and why it makes the noise tho.? Cant be pad on disk otherwise it would we just be wearing the pad down, cant imagine calliper piston on the rear of the pad making that noise.

Sounds metal on metal, tho i tried it about 2pm, and no noise found. Weird
