starter motor heat shield

having dropped the new motor in and clamped it all up i then find the heat shield sitting on the driveway !

how necessary is it ?

Quite necessary. You starter might get damaged from the heat.

Very necessary - the wiring melts under the heat without it

You can fit it just by undoing all the manifold bolts till they are nearly off - slide the manifold back and then slide the heatshield in from underneath on the drivers side

it can be fitted while the manifold is on buts its a pain in the arse
