Right, its cold, wet and windy and I need to get my steering wheel off my ph1 172 fairly quickly.

Can anyone tell me how long to leave it after disconnecting the battery and what size sockets etc. are required?

It doesn't take long. 2x torx to remove the airbag and 1x bigger torx to remove the wheel. 5 minutes tops.

If the ph1 is the same as the ph2 its not 2 torx for the airbag.

Ph 2 just has clips holding it on so you just prize them off with a flathead screwdriver. Then unplug the wires and then as jesus says, size 50ish torx in the middle.
Be carefull with your SAS though

na phase 1 is 2 t20 torques and a t50/55 (cant remember) but it just diconnected the battery and did it straight away. took me about 10mins ma to get it off. the worst was getting the wheel off the splines. :(

It's not though, which is why I said torx and not clips ;)

I know the steering wheel torx is a T50 on a ph2 and to remove the airbag is two clips that you can use a small flat head.

i left mine 30mins disconnected before starting
