Strange Noise

Cars going into renault thurs for investigation of strange noise coming from belt area.
Tapping almost dry tappet sound or belts flapping or tensioner breaking down.

This is what renault think by just listening to it???

Sound only appears when engine is at normal temp, at standstill??

I think its a auxillary belt problem, the is a modified kit ro fix it. The noise sounds far worse than it actually is. The AA man thought i had a cylinder that was oil dry!!

I was told not to drive mine, so be careful mate!!

Yeah it sounds dry tappet, but it would be worse from cold????????

No probs when cold only when hot..........

The most common fault is the alternator pulleys worn . Sometimes the bearings fail causing a squeeking noise. It could also be the PAS pump pulley are air con pulley. On the F4R lump the auxilary belt powers all 3 of these ancileries and if any one of them break it will send the auxilary belt into the path of the cambelt causing the belt to jump a few teeth. This will have the same outcome as a snapped cambelt. As the engine speeds up the noise disappears.

So it's drive it slow for a week then................

Don't expect this on such a new motor??????????

Personally i wouldnt drive it - if the pulley comes off and causes the belt to snap Renault will probably say its down to driver error are tell you the belt snapped ( wear & tear item ) then they wont cover it under warranty

Good point when car is in, going to have meg 225 demo.

I had a very similar noise on my T plate 1.6 16v clio. Sounded very much like there was a very dry tappet or there was no oil in the engine!!

Got it looked at and it turned out one of the pulleys had started to come loose at was "slapping" about causing this noise. I thought I had knackered the engine as it really did sound like it was a fault with tappets or cylinders. Just tightened up the pulley and it was sorted.

Might be worth a look before spending any money??
