Stub Axle

So I went to change the rear disc / wheel bearing assembly on the offside, was a right b*****d to get off but it eventually came off with my crappy puller. The inside bearing had shat itself and ended up all over the floor, but annoyingly the inner race is stuck fast to the stub.

I was gonna get the grinder out but it is fairly close to the tank / fuel lines. Any removal ideas?

(PS ignore wrong coil spring, I know)

The exact same thing happened to me, but with a small puller, less than a tender from a local shop, I managed to removed the inner bearing in literally 10 seconds.

The puller needs quite sharp teeth to reach around the back of the bearing. I actually used the spacer to grab and that to pull the bearing. Just be careful not to damage the spacer and be gentle.

The below image is nearly identical to my puller.

Remember to replace the spacer and ensure you torque the disc assembly back on to 175nm, the correct torque is vital with bearings.

Too tight and you can crush the bearing causing it to possibly fail and thereafter you cold possibly loose your wheel followed quickly by a horrible accident if you're unlucky. Not tight enough and it will rattle itself loose causing possible damage to the hub / disc.

stop being a soft poof and get the grinder out, grind a large flat, t**t with hammer, it will crack, done

Thanks, I'm aware of the problems with bearings and torque - I used to own an XR2 ;) How vital is the spacer? Looks like whoever fitted the other side last time didn't put one back.
