Sub Question - SVC/DVC - 2/4ohm

  Skoda Fabia vRS

right, im after ideas here

disregarding the amp for the time being, what would people suggest doing, sub wise, with a max budget of £200

would it be best, to buy a £200 DVC sub and wire them to 2ohm ?

or, would it be better to buy 2 SVC 4ohm subs ?

also, can you run 2 subs off a mono block, and if you do, and they are 4ohm SVC subs, does that mean the amp will see 2ohm, or will the power at the amp simply go half to each sub, still showing 4ohm ?

All depends on how you wire them up. Do a search, RB_172 explained this in detail in a similar thread entitled ohms IIRC

ive got wiring diagrams for loads of diff combos, why didnt i just look at those, i dont know, lol !

it would show 2ohm to the amp, which means each one would get the same power, whatever the amp puts out at 4ohm each basically

previous question still stands though........2 cheaper SVC subs, or 1 DVC wired to 2ohm ?

Sorry to be awkward but really depends on what type and how much bass you want.

Id personally go for a single DVC wired to 2 ohms in a sealed box cos that suits the type of bass I like.

personally I would buy one better sub, rather than 2 cheaper ones,

although it deffo depends on what amp you have.

Ive got 2 vibe 10" bessies in a sealed enclosure, they are 300w RMS, 600w Max 4ohm SVC subs.

I run em in parrellel on the sony XM-D1000P5 and its specs are:
1600W max power
500W RMS x 1 into 4 ohm
900W RMS x 1 into 2 ohm

So really im overpowering em, but they take the abuse, ive never had to crank it right up.

go for a sub thatll be nicely powered by an amp, dont go getting an amp thats gonna be at 100% load all the time, coz youll just end up straining the components inside the amp.

well the amp ive got at the moment is the Alpine MRP-M350

which is 350W x 1 @ 2ohm, 200W x 1 @ 4ohm

however, thats at 14.4v !!!.............so i reckon im probably seein about 150W RMS to my sub, which is a rare SVC Alpine Type R

ive been thinkin of gettin a DVC sub and a new amp, need ££ though !!
