On a 35d forum I'm on alot of people claim the N57 lump has the same shell issues as the M Cars. Quite literally a handful of cars of thousands on there have had the bottom end go and at low mileages. So as normal on the internet nowadays this is a major issue.

A guy with a 170k one felt he needed to do them or his car would explode based on advice of others, opened it up and...

Like new and had even been on long life services it's whole life. The internet is a dangerous place these days as it even had me thinking before..
LOL, bet he's chuffed.

Is it a different part or just less strain?

yeah, its a good idea. I dont know if my OCD is gonna go into megadrive if oen says bmw and one says Hella. It also seems like a huge waste of money when I could just flog the original one for silly money. Just put a post up on the 140 fb group to see if anyone has one
Bit of a s**t catch 22 isn't it. If I've said it once, I've said it a million times, BMW tax is a joke. We're paying for them to employ some blind c**t who can only use a geometry set with guess work to design their new awful cars.

But are they selling at that price point cat d? They may be advertised at that but are they actually selling
I'm not so sure they are.

-Rob on here selling the lovely M3 for what looked very reasonable money (circa 15k), not sure if he's sold it yet but he had it up for a long time. Few of the cars for sale where the seller is clearly taking the piss hang around forever and he wasn't taking the piss imo.

I think people are holding off on big car purchases until 2023 now hoping that the prices will settle down.

My brain - Inflated 2022 prices means buying a car is a bad decision. BUT, everyone knows this so is holding off and the prices would be lower or they might accept bids. But they know new cars are taking ages so values will be higher....

Lads. I need some help.

Drivers side headlight was on and off foggy since I bought it (used) a couple of years ago. It got really bad when the 2nd lockdown hit and I removed the headlight and poured half a pint (no joke) of water out of it. Sealed it all back up, liberally, with some clear silicon around the edges. Anyway, its still fucked and now the lense has begun to split. I garage the car most nights so it doesnt fog up much but the crack is doing my head in.

New Headlight from BMW - *insert Austin Powers One Million Dollars Meme*

Ebay BMW Headlight - Circa £500

New Hella Headlight - £427

Re-Lensed (chinese lense copy) - £100

Anyone got any advice?
Not sure if this is any good mate, little bit cheaper than the Hella? and at least it OG.

Shadow Edition mate. Its also one of the ones where a random mobile number is shoved up with 'cash on collection' only which is mega sus

@Sidnancy if the hella ones are that much cheaper, buy 2 (then no one will notice if you ever sell it) and sell your old genuine ones on ebay.

Also, re: the query on updating F30 service histories, if the car is not going to be within the BMW network anymore, ie downloading history from the central database, you can use this to update the local service history on the car: https://www.bimmerscene.com/Thread-HU-SERVICE-MANAGER-zip-attached #

Bare in mind that if it does go into the main dealer and gets plugged in, everything you've loaded will be wiped.

I am but, can't really drive or open it up until I get the rod bearings done. It's booked in with Reddish next month.

Don't want to take risks on the bearings if I can help it.
If i was you i would lock it in the garage and don't even look at it until it goes to Reddish... :ROFLMAO:

Congrats though mate, bet it sounds epic.

I looked at that ad loads on cutters. Couldn't understand why it hadn't sold. Once the bearings are done, it will be a properly sorted car. Congrats.

Redish are only 10 miles up the road from me. How much do they charge out of interest?

Is it usually around £1000 for rods on an e46 M3... Correct me if I'm wrong with the procedure but isn't it literally just sump off to get to the bearings. I can't understand why it costs so much money to get them done. Again if its way more complex correct me. Just confused!

Its quite cheap to just chuck the bearings in but to do a decent job all the bits add up. On the E46 you would be mad to not sort out the oil pump bolt while you are there for example - not sure if the E9x suffers with that?

I still think £1600 is quite a lot though especially as they are for the ACL bearings and not OEM BMW, but I have never looked at whats involved in doing the job on an S65 vs an S54.

My Dad paid £500 and got pictures and the old bearings, you were robbed.
Mates rates I guess?

Mine were done by A Reeve with engine mounts about 25k ago, Sure the invoice was for 1500+

My mate will do them for parts plus a couple hundred for his time

Took this a spin round the West of Scotland earlier today. 350odd miles done and almost 2 full tanks rinsed

I used Redish for my bearings plus engine mounts. Good guys and extremely thorough.

As specialists go, they are supposed to be one of the best if not the best so I'm expecting good things.

Currently trying to decide if I should get it on a trailer to them or risk the drive.

Take it steady and drive it there bud. Can’t beat a good trip in an M3. 🙂 Great purchase btw - you will love it
