Woken up to a car alarm at 7am, tried to sleep through the winds and the intermittent alarm but it turned out to be mine.

This was the damage -

Just called Autoglass, £120 for a replacement!

your windscreen cover does back windows too i had mine repaired for £70 but the car got written off as the damage to the rest was to far gone

could of been sooo much worse, my old car roof got 3 slates fall on it and one night, all luckily landed flat not on the edge, still did alot of damage though, and about 10 years ago my sister had a mint original mini cooper written off after 2 slates and a brick decided to jump on it

Genius! I think he should ring up and try that. He may get away with not paying his insurance excess then. If not, like the others said just try and get a second hand tailgate from somewhere. Best of luck anyway mate, seems like Scotland had it really bad the other day.
