Touch up with a spray

  200
Hi, I've just bought a tin of Monaco blue spray paint as i need to touch up a few areas of my car, wing mirror is scratched and a few little paint chips on the front bumper.

How do i go about doing it? Do i just spray over the scratches let it dry and then put the lacquer on? or do i need to sand a little area first?

Thanks, Matt

Personally, i'd let a bodyshop take care of re spraying. But if you wanna have a crack at it yourself, sand it down a bit, spray it in layers, then lacquer it :)

It's literally a 1 inch scuff on the wing mirror and a couple of tiny chips on the front bumper, nothing major but thought I'd tidy it up! So sand down a little bit around it, would grade 1500 be good enough for that?

As above really. if you DIY it, it will probably stand out like a sore thumb, its a bit of an art form blending. Mirror caps are one thing, but i wouldnt touch your arches without getting it done professionally, as its likely to look worse than before. You really need a very good atomisation from your spray gun to blend well, so doing it with a rattle can is a tall tall order.

Whatever you spray you always "key" (sand) it, and blending wise you'll have to key a good sized area, as you have to spray over quite a bit to blend out the paint. Dont forget, you have to also blend the clear coat, make sure you mask the car well if you dont want tons of over spray on it, you have to keep your masking a good distance from the area you want to fix/blend else you'll have lines!

OK i think I'll be able to do the mirror as i can just spray it all and there shouldn't be lines but i might leave the bumper until i can get it done by the pro's.

Thanks for the help.
