Toyo T-1R useless on track?

Another tyre thread sorry! ;)

Either going with RSR's or Toyo T-1R for use on my 15" track wheels, obviously the RSR's are the better tyre but they are double the cost. I know people and some race classes use T-1R's as they are so cheap, but is it worth going with the RSR's for double the cost? Will it be worth it on track for the cost to performance ratio? I could get 8 Toyos for the cost of 4 RSR's!!

Cheers,
Dan

I had them on my 182 when I went on our Euro road trip, which included a stop at the Ring.

Of course they're not going to compare to 888 etc, but I thought they were pretty good, and pretty cheap too.

apologies i was meaning if u are going to use them purely as a track Tyre, then some second hand 888's are going to be a better option than new t1r's no?

T1R are a reasonable all round tyre for the money, but far from being a trackday tyre, RSR is much more suitable for that use and worth the extra money.

T1R's are great, less grip = more fun. Oh, & they cost f*ck all.

Imho the clio doesnt have enough power to warrant R888's etc except when racing/timing - makes it waaaaay too easy.

I kind of agree in principle with what you are saying (I like wet days in the clios for example) but it also depends on the track, if its somewhere like Combe for example where you have such a massive run up for each corner then power hasnt really got much to do with corner speeds so a clio wants a decent tyre as much as a faster car does.

  Whichever has fuel
A good friend of mine raced (very successfully, I have videos to prove!) his car with T1R's as his wet and dry tyre.

His wets were effectively just brand new tyres, the dry's were new tyres with 4mm shaved off them to stop the tread moving about when they got hot.

IMHO, it all depends on the car/driver/suspension setup. No one tyre is good/bad on each car as the setups vary massively from car to car.

Depends what you go to track for imo

If its to play around with the levels of grip then yes

but if you want to make your car focused and try and show up other cars on track, fast lap times etc. then get a better tyre.

I honestly dont think there is a car in the world that would be quicker on T1R than RSR to be honest, they are just better all round (other than cost)

Yeah, for exmaple if you are on a busy action day its nice to have the extra grip just to help you past traffic.

On an empty track though, less grip can be great fun.

I **** off T1R's till I'm blue in the face as a road tyre. But, as a track tyre they aren't bad. ROB91 on here (had the 1.2 F4R conversion) used them for a good year because they were cheap and tbh, once they've got some good heat in them they aren't bad.
