Turbo Clio by KTEC preferably

Chi

After much indecision I have concluded that a modified clio turbo would be preference for my next step into the clio scene.
If anyone has a nice example please let me know as I would be interested. I have mentioned KTEC as I know this company to be well respected however I would consider other reputable specialists. Thanks in Advance

Engine dynamics and do your own one, it'll be better than the prices dreamers want for an already completed one

Ahright!

I remember seeing it last year. Think it was about the same price actually. Used to be in Scotland.

Dont think i could pay that much for it!

Yeah i think i remember it too... it was up for £5k then and said to be running 305bhp.

Nearly 6k is strong money for an 02 plate clio regardless of its spec!

No doubt it will be mental though!

It would be insane, and having full interior etc would be comfy enough as a daily. If the engine can put up with that!

But it would be my luck to pay 6k for it and it would blow up on my way home!

Ha yes its lots of money for 02..

That link to the car Daniel posted seems cheap to me given the amount of money gone into it. Though because K-Tec have 'built' it, i'd never buy it, would probably need the same amount of money again to be fixed/done correctly.

I like that a lot, but it is a lot of money for a second hand tuned car. Even though it would cost a hell of a lot more than that to do it yourself.

As Nick says, wouldn't fancy owning a KTEC car now anyway to be honest, would be too concerned about the mapping.

Why is that?

KTEC not as reputable as I thought then?

Top speed: 150

Surely a car with near 400 horse will do more than 150mph? Considering a standard one does 140?

Depends on how it is geared and what the rev limiter is, mine pulls over 170mph quite happily with not much over 300bhp but if I put a lower rev limit on it (mine is 7800rpm) and I used a ph2 diff not a ph1 one, then the same power would only get to 150mph before it hit the limiter.

A ph2 clio with a normal rev limiter and standard diff wont go over 150mph even if you have 800bhp

Is this the same one? Cause its not as quick as i was expecting

Here is what my 300bhp full trimmed road car with full glass, rear seats and a radio etc does to a 200 on track:

And yes he was trying, there is another thread on here where has posted footage from his car.

Full session video:

300bhp in a clio is VERY effective as a trackday car, I really think people need to go in a properly setup one (of which there are very very few) before they start chasing more power than that. Getting PROPER control of the power and getting a decent controllable spread of torque is so much more important than the peak figure.
More power in mine would make me no quicker in the bends, no quicker out of the bends, no quicker at the start of the straights, no quicker at the end of the straights under braking (ie all the exciting bits of the track) so only place it would make me slightly quicker is the middle of the straights where TBH Im already doing 150mph so is there really much point? All it does is make the brakes work even harder which means I wouldnt be able to run 15ss anymore and would start making me slower on the corners I suspect.

I'd personally sooner see you download a TomTom map of beligum onto your car than one of their maps from what I have seen, but maybe I have just been unlucky and only see the bad ones.

Lol what if you were to buy and take it to be remapped? Still cheaper than starting from scratch.. That video is awesome!

Depends. If the mapping is out, and its done some miles with that map on then the damage may already have been done. So remapping it won't solve the long term potential issues. But, I have not seen or have any experience with this particular car. It may be a great car. It may be a lemon. Who knows.

RAC inspection haha

that's a very bizare dyno graph, peak power at just over 5000rpm then it just falls away!

Turbo maxed out and then the engine's VE just drops off where its trying to keep it spinning and that results in high exhaust back pressures at a guess, probably an effect exaggerated by poor mapping.

Mine was the MWM demo car originally, so I re-used the external parts to the engine for turbo and manifold etc and ECU, effectively thats about 3 and a bit I reckon if buying new, as closest you will get is the ED kit plus an aftermarket ECU and mine is on some 197 bits too which cost about 400 ish secondhand (head/cams/inlet)

Then the rebuild costs were approx (I dont keep receipts, lol)

Engine cylinder head rebuild:
parts : 500
labour : 0
Work done by Lesley Collis

Engine bottom end build and engine build up to mate head to bottom end with belts and gaskets etc :
parts : 2000
labour : 1 pizza hut and 2 harvesters
Work done by : Chip and Dan@SJM (formerly known as Danlp6 on here)

Gearbox rebuild with Quaiffe diff:
Parts : 1000
Labour (and rebuild parts) + transport : 400
Gear oil : 60 ish
Work done by: agency transmissions

Clutch
Parts : 500
Labour : zero

Mapping
Rolling road rental for half an hour : 25
Labour : zero
Fuel mapping on the road and on the rollers and to and from the rollers : 100
Work done by : Chip, with assistance from Lesley Collis

Then a couple of hundred in oils and filters and fluids for build and running in etc

So around the sort of 7K ish mark, although if you were paying labour you would probably be nearer the 10K mark all in.
