Typical Renault (182 oil!)

  Mondeo STTDCI

Just popped out to my two local dealers to see if they;d supply me with some Elf Excellium 5w40.

The first one, on being asked if they could supply ELF oil asked for what car and came back with some ELF Ultimate 5w40. FULLY SYNTH.

I then said I needed semi synth and he couldnt understand why. I said it hadnt got enough miles on it and he said "well this is what we are putting into all the 182s that come in". I said it was no good to me.

Went to the second and they said they couldnt supply ELF oil and they got an equivalent to ELF called "Montreal" or summat. Told me to goto Halfords!

Bugger. Looks like its Silkolene for me then!

  Golf Mk6 Oil Burner

I used the enhanced mineral stuff from halfords.

Only be in for 5k miles so looking at previous threads seemed the best bet.

you can get elf oil from total UK based in castleford.

Ive got some on the way.

didnt realise Elf Excellium was semi, thats what they tell you to use all the time if you look in manual.

still.

Isnt Ultimate and Excellium LDX fully sunth and its the Evolution thats semi?

ive ordered 48 litres of elf excellium ldx that I thought was fully synth, if anyone is having trouble getting it ring Debra on 01977603363 they are the suppliers of elf/total/fina oil and have good prices. Tell her its the same stuff she supplied Liam with.

They do the elf 5w40 oil that is reccommended by renault.

see here for elf info:

Thanks for the info Liam...

I bought some of the 10w40 competion st stuff from France also, but I dont think its the right type (sorry Tom mate).

Says in the manual that the 10w40 competion st is suitable for all petrol clio engines EXCEPT the RS 2.0 :(.

Might order some Excellium, or get some from France when I go back.

personally id rather use Silkolene......

the Pro S 5W-40 would be perfect for a 172/182 and has been used with good results from people on here after i recommended it
