Under Seat Sub

I currently have this: http://www.bluespot.co.uk/car-audio.aspx/thb200a-speaker which sounded amazing in my other cars. I tried fitting it in the Clio (after a year of sitting in my bedroom) and it didn't want to work. It works if I wiggle the wires around, but not when it's just sat in place.

Obviously this is not ideal. If I can't get it fixed, I'll be looking for another.

After a brief search, I have found this at a similar price: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/KENWOOD-K...-BUILTIN-150-WATTS-BASS-CONTROL-/360674796821

I'm wondering if anyone has one and can tell me what it's like, or even recommend any other alternatives within a similar price range.

I've been looking at these recently too. I've currently got: http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/..._productId_773427_langId_-1_categoryId_265872
But am looking to cut down to keep boot space and save as much weight as I can for MPG y0.

Never had an underseat sub before though, I'm a little put off by the idea of a vibrating seat, or is it not that bad?
My only restriction is that I really really want a remote, my current one has one, and I dont feel like I could live without it.

I'd like to see what you end up with, so I can get an idea and possibly follow suit!

It's not that bad. On the Blaupunkt, you don't need a remote. The dials are easy to access, just slide it from under your seat and adjust what you need to, then put it back. Once adjusted though I just left it.

The Blaupunkt also fits absolutely perfectly under the passenger seat. I've found the successor to the discontinued THB200A so it's between the Kenwood and that.

They sound absolutely brilliant though.

I'm considering an Alpine SWE 1200 but it is slightly more expensive.

Research continues!

I'm after the cheapest option available since I've already bought the Blaupunkt and the wiring has packed up. Tbh, I can't see anything sounding better than the Blaupunkt - I was seriously impressed with this bit of kit.

Another thing to bear in mind is the size. The THB200A dimensions are as follows:

L - 340mm
W - 225mm
H - 71mm

That is an absolute snug fit under the Trophy's passenger Recaro. Anything bigger would be a struggle unless you mount it elsewhere, or in the rear.

Is it the internal wiring of the sub set up that is fooked or the wires from stereo to sub?

Tbf whichever one it is either way not just replace the wires Jamie? (If the one you had was good?)

It's all one wiring harness.

I can't replace the wires as they've been discontinued :(

I got the Kenwood KSC-SW01 for my Clio and its not really anything to write home about, so if the above are similar then I personally wouldn't buy another.

Its ok at low levels, but when you try to add a fair bit of low end to trance and turn the volume up, it flakes out. Makes a distorted "pop" like noise instead of a nice THUD for the kick drum. I think it is on par with the bass the stock speakers put out, it just doesn't shake the trim. I've sat for a fair while playing with the settings on both the sub and headunit and I can't get it to play ball at louder volumes for the life of me. Other genres such as rap suffer the same, however its a lot more forgiving with rock/alternate rock. Drum and bass & dubstep don't suffer quite as much as dance/trance either.

Thinking I may need to face the fact that I'm gonna have to add some weight and put a sub enclosure in the boot.

Cheers, nice to hear a review from someone who has one. The Blaupunkt (I keep singing it's praises!) sounded brilliant at all volumes, it was 'just right' if that makes sense. Doesn't shatter your windows but it's bloody bassy and sounded spot on. I'm tempted to get the newer one actually just because it was that good.

The Kenwood you had... this seems to be a newer version, going off the model number. However I'm not sure I'd trust it (based on your review of the older one) as much as I would the Blaupunkt.

True yes, but all the KSC-SW's (irrespective of the last 2 digits) are all 150w so I would buy with caution. Tried to get some settings for mine assuming I was setting it up wrong & found this on meganesport...

The THB200A I had was 75w and sounded mental.

I think playing with the settings is the key, but once they're right then you can leave them that way.

From the amount of praise you're singing I'd be seriously interested in looking at the new models!

'd love an under-seat for the space and less weight, but I'm just so fussy about the actual sound quality - my Vibe is an absolute beast when it comes to high volumes etc, but I only ever have it on half volume max, 1/4 volume for every day use, it's just a little too much sometimes.

I'm just worried the smaller subs wont have a decent enough punch for deeper bass on house/dubstep etc.

What Vibe is it? I had a CBR12 Evo (or something like that, it got nicked anyway). This is as good a quality, just with less bass than the big sub/amp enclosure.

For me, it's perfect. I don't want my head aching or windows shattering. I just wanted a nice, noticable amount of bass that made the overall sound decent... that's what I got!

Vibe blackair V12 12". Something like 1600w. Bit over powered and weighs like 25Kg.

thats precisely what I'm after! I may look in to the newer models in that case, at the moment I was looking in to Alpine.

Good stuff. It would be interesting if a few of us got a few of the different makes/models then reported back. I, for one, am 100% sure I'll be getting the Blaupunkt XLF200A if my audio guy can't fix my current one next week. He's going to do some tests to see if it's a connection problem... if not, it's knackered. I'm sure I'll have something sorted in a couple of weeks time :)

I have this sat in my loft, anyone wanna buy it?

Was the Blaupunkt really that good jesus? IF so I'm tempted to pick one up today if I can find one locally!

I have also been looking at these under seat subs. I miss the bass but I don't want anything in the boot as I bung my mountain bike in the back. I have no idea what to get, I was looking at the real cheap ones on ebay you can get for £60 - but I suppose you get what you pay for.

I'm quite tempted by one of these too. And as above, I don't really want a big sub in my boot. How heavy are these under seat ones? Can the chair still be moved easily?

If anyone wants to listen to mine at a meet, come over and I'll show you. It does work, you just have to hold the wire in place a bit... however I'll probably have a new one installed by then.

Not sure on weight, can lift it with one hand though. The chair slides fine, I've got Recaros in mine so not sure about standard seats. It sits in the little well underneath the seat, so isn't actually protruding.

My audio guy has said he'll take a look, but I remembered that when my mate was trying to fix it he actually pulled one of the wires out of the wiring harness block so I'm not sure if that can be sorted.

I really want the XLF so this could be a good excuse ;)

Audio guy told me it was a fault with the connection inside the sub rather than the wiring. I thought 'finally, an excuse to upgrade ;)' so have just bought the XLF200A.

100% standard. I'll see how it goes with just this and take it from there. I don't want to be spending hundreds on audio, especially not aftermarket headunits either.

Have any of u fellas tried them under the standard seat? Wouldnt mind getting one me self if they fit. What did it sound like wired up to the standard unit Jesus?

Got it fitted today. As said, the Blaupunkt one fits perfectly under the passenger seat in the Trophy.

It sounds amazing! It's way too loud so I turned the bass down in fact to make it 'just right'. I still need to mess about with the settings to get it perfect (killed my battery doing it earlier :dapprove:) but I'm very impressed.
