736 = Ph2 172, DBW
738 = 182

I tend to refer to them all as 730 for 172/182 as they're basicaly the same in terms of parts compatibility etc.

Interesting, the motor factor I'm speaking to has a different aux belt for 736 and 738? I thought they'd be the same. I wonder if she's thinking cup i.e. no air con.

Probably the 736 is the 172 Cup lump.

Later 172 and 182s use the 736 lump don't they? Switching to the 738 later I thought?

My 53 172 had a 736 lump in it, has's 55 182 has a 738 in it though.

Just tell them its the one with aircon, the belt will be the same length in them all except the non aircon ones, and the tenioner has loads of room to take any slack
