Wheel Spacers on Track

  M3, Cup racer'd 182
On a track car a bad idea dude,
It will cause extra strain on your wheel bearings and possibly on other parts.

i thought the wider the track the better the handling? surely all these clio's with spacers on are not just for looks?

Sure spacers are a bad idea period, renault didnt come up with et 43 or whatever just for fun, believe you are meant to run a straight line through the king pin axis through the centre of the wheel ( or something like that) and surely it messes up the negative scrub radius but thats maybe not an issue on track, and no i dont really know what im talking about.

I personal wouldn't like spacers on track 1. their increaseing your unsprung weight 2. theirs always that thought 'what if they give up and I loose a wheel now'

Lol is all I'm going to say about this thread.

Jay has it spot on pretty much, wider track so better grip. Plus as he's said 2 years of driving and not a problem, plus that's not pansy road track driving, that's racing.

Eibach hubcentric 25mm on the front of my cup... weigh less than 500g pair, wouldn't be able to get much camber with my 45mm dia front suspension with out them, normal road use 20-22mm dia suspension.... can get lots cheaper, might not be as light as Eibach ...handling is right where it needs to be....

Lol at unsprung weight with spacers.

We have 30mm each side on the front, two seasons racing and we have only just this minute changed the front bearings ready for next year, the old ones showed no signs of wear at all.

And yes, they are Eibach hubcentric ones.

I think it was Toastfrenzy's Cup at Bedford with epic front stance that made me think about this. :)

And lol at unsprung weight. I could fit lead spacers and still have a net reduction following swapping the stock 172 wheels for OZ F1s.

Is there enough of an advantage of fitting spacers to my 172 for track use to warrant it though? Or should I just spend the money on booking another track day :)?

Thread revival.

Are 25mm bolt to the hub spacers on the front, and 10mm hub spacers on the rear going to cause any clearance or rubbing issues on Cup shocks and Sportline springs with 15" OZ F1s?

  172 cup trackday
I have just put 15mm hub spacers with -1 camber on the rear and I'm wishing I'd gone bigger, loads of space.

Getting some slight scrubbing with et43 20mm 3 degrees on rear, but only with haaaaaard cornering

  Ph2 Clio 172
Yours is a bit of an exception Mike, makes the camber on BTCC cars look pathetic :)

Should I try and keep them inline, or would 25mm front and 10mm rear be OK?

So basically these bolt to the hub spacers are ok on the track and my wheels won't fall off after hard driving? Even without a stud and nut kit?

thread resurrection- so, running a full set of 16mm hubcentric spacers all round would be fine on a track (Lydden)
I was gonna remove the spacers, but cant find the original bolts... Doh!

Jesus, yes spacers are fine on track most of us have been running them for years, hence the thread age, with literally no issues

seen that Demon Tweekes sell spacers as "Hub Buddies" and suggest they are good on track for better cornering
and also KTEC racing do a specific Clio set for the track too
so if they are selling them specifically for track, they cant be bad

I suppose it plays on the mind that the longer the bolts the less strength in them, then the next concern would be uneven wear on the tyres
hopefully concerns that are unwarranted

All completely unwarranted @chris blue
I've run spacers on a stud kit for nigh on ten years on my track cars now. And that's on full slicks as well
If you fit them and then have the car geo'd there will be no additional wear to tyres

If concerned don’t use them?
Quite right- but think ive thrown the original wheel bolts ot at best misplaced them, after storing these summer wheels in the shed.... probably buy some other bolts as back up for standard wheels anyway

Whats the deal with trying the track with spacers on?

If you go too wide it will scrub.

Yep- will give it a go with spacer on. Can always get new shorter bolts, and take the spacers off at track if they dont work for me

got 16mm's all round, so 32mm wider per axle

I reckon it will scrub will spacers
not absolutely certain what you mean by scrub, but if its the removal and roughening up of the tyre surface more than normal driving, tyres at Lydden fayre pretty badly as its only a mile circuit with lots of twists and bends. Tyres don't last long anyway

I reduced my pressure to 24psi as advised by circuit pro's, and it was fabulously grippy, almost drifting round all the corners. Fantastic fun. One brand new front nearside tyre was wrecked after a sessioned track day, 8 x 20 min sesh's. That's the AD08r ive just replaced. The other didn't fayre much better. 2 rears looked as normal as they should after a track day

So am expecting major "scrub" anyway.
