When to switch Tyres around

  Hondata'd EP3 Type R
Hi, I know I drive a Civic, but the fundamentals are the same as a a Clio. IE FWD.

In January I had 4x Brand new matching tyres fitted. Obviously, been FWD, the fronts are wearing faster than the rears (V-Tec y0!)

If a brand new Tyre is 8mm (I believe) my front tyres are on around 3.5-4mm and my rears look pretty much brand new, I'd estimate 6-7mm of tread.

I was wondering when would be the best time to switch them round. Obviously I want to get the most out of my tyres before spending another £400. Do it now, or wait till Ive wore a bit more off the front?

Thanks

I just run the fronts bald and buy 2 more. Then put the rears on the front and new ones on the back. Then repeat etc.

I do it a few times throughout the tyres life.

Leave a tyre on the rear for half its life, doing nothing other than being dragged along and some mild braking then move it to the front and ask it to deal with acceleration, almost all the braking and the cornering while rotating in the opposite direction for the first time in its life and it'll feel, well, just weird.

By swapping them round more frequently you can get the absolute maximum usable life from them while minimising the above and it also always keeps the car balanced all round grip wise.

Also means that if you want to try new rubber, you get a full set so can feel what they're meant to feel like.

Please explain why your back wheels rotate in a different direction to your fronts .. ?

You will also put more worn tyres on the rear compared to the front when you swap front to rear , another poor idea .
