When viewing a 172

check for serviceing if it is around 65K-75K then see if it has had the dreded Cam belts etc changed or u already loosing money
 
  RenaultSport clio 172 CUP
If the cars 5 years + Make sure the cam belt was done on the last service.

Regardless of age the AUX belt is due at 36k.


Full service history is a must in my opinion.

bare in mind cambelt is £500 circa for a job done properlly. And that car is due a cambelt this year if its not been done and aux belt....regardless of miles its 5 years are close.

my car was left 6 years and still ok though.

they are generally sold more so at around 36k and 60ishk because both those services are ALOT of cash if taken to renault. You can knock the price down with most due to this, so bare that in mind

Definately get AA to have a gander. Wish I did with mine, ended up spending a fortune in the first 6 months.

... and as said above make sure the Cambelt been done if over 5 years old regardless of mileage. Mine 'had' to be done with only 33k on the clock.
