Where do I buy 120mm trumpets from?

  Cup In bits
It will all depend on if they are direct to head, taper bodies etc. There are a few different types of trumpets. I have Jenvey 45mm parallel ITB's but I made 48x120mm trumpets fit by opening out the mouth of them to fit, I could have got 45mm mouth but upgraded slightly.

Although they will cost more, you could get the Emerald adjustable ones, that way you can get the longest possible to fit.

I think I have 45mm. Is there any benefit in opening up the manifold to fit bigger diameter trumpets?

Probably just stick with what I've got already to keep it simple.

Emerald ones sound interesting though.

Emerald are basically tubes with a mouth at the end though right?

More air the bigger you go, suits a higher spec engine but I have built so I have scope to forge etc in the future. Its worth porting everything together as the Jenvey castings are pretty poor tbh. I mistakingly bought the 48mm trumpets to begin with not knowing the differences but it now means I have 48mm taper bodies which is something Jenvey don't sell afaik.

Sorry this is getting very confusing

Clio bodies are 48mm
They are tapered 45mm at the head and 48mm at the trumpet.

I read your post in a rush and though you meant you'd opened up the head end to be 48mm

If you've got 48mm at the trumpet tapering down to 45mm at the manifold/head - then that's a standard Clio 172 kit from Jenvey
They use SF48 bodies

I use a carbon backbox from reverie and a C603D (I think) pipercross filter - it all clears fine.

But everyone doesn't have a Clio specific kit on their car. Mine were 45mm parallel which were then opened out 48mm at the 'mouth' to meet up with the 48mm trumpets I bought.

Best to measure what you have as there's a few combinations kicking about, Jenvey will do all sorts sizes custom for you on there CNC.

The problem is with the emeralds is they have a very narrow opening and are parallel the whole way through

You lose a fair bit of torque without that taper

The 120mm trumpets taper from what I think is around 60mm down to 48mm then the bodies themselves taper from 48mm to 45mm - so you get a nice tapered inlet all the way to the head. Great for torque delivery.

Good point but I'd assume the OP has the individual setup as it's far more common than the twin setup.
I think they stopped selling the twin setup about 5 years ago!

Thanks Phil. I've got plenty of space in my air filter housing already. The bonnet barely closes though lol. Need to trim the underside of it..

I'm not exactly sure on the setup. It was Chrispys old setup if anyone knows it.

Yep chrispy's setup was identical to mine - individual SF48's on a jenvey clio manifold

So the ones I linked you to will fit.

The bonnet on my car was touching the foam filter so I cut the inner skin out - loads of room now :)

Cheers man.

Yeah I need to cut the skin out. How did you stop the sharp metal from tearing the filter? Did you just sand it down on the edges?

Have to disagree seeing as emerald have tested taper to none taper and found no difference.

519 automotive is well placed to comment on what's best as he was part of testing at emerald, told me himself!!

Danny was there for the testing :)

AFAIK he just doesn't like emerald ECU's

And as per emeralds testing there is no benefit to tapered trumpets, length is all that matters

  DON'T SEND ME PM'S!!
I though Danny hates Emerald with a passion?? Or am i making that up??

can't stand the ecu software. Dave's a decent guy though. Told him straight that the software was aweful while stood in his dyno room, while he was mapping a williams I took there as it had an emerald fitted previously. same car we tested some of his adjustable trumpets on

I cut the whole of the bit out that has the bonnet latch on, then the ends of the strengthening bars I just ground the ends flat with a grinding disc on a dremel.

I'll be honest it's not very pretty to look at because the strengthening bits are actually glued to the skin too - so pulling them off dented the bonnet. But it's practical lol and I think I'm going to replace my bonnet with a carbon fibre or fibreglass one next year anyway so it'll do for now.

Why don't you get spacers from jenvey rather than get trumpets? Cheaper and don't need a larger filter.

How do these work then? Off to look for pics now

Like this mate:

(the bits between the manifold and the plenum, look kind of like bodies but without the spindle)

On an ITB setup you can use them to add length either between the body and the manifold or between the body and the trumpet
