Which 17" tyres would you buy?

Hi guys,

I'm after a new set of 205/40/17 tyres for my 172.

If money wasn't part of the equation, which ones would you get?

I'm after tyres that would suit the Clio (small car) for drive days and city driving.

I need a tyre that grips, and I'm not worried about tyre wear, I don't do many k's, and only really take it for a hard drive on the weekend.

So, what would it be? What are your experiences with 17 inch tyres?

If you do a search this topic comes up quite often I think! There's also the poll on the left hand side of the screen which will give you some ideas. :) (Size of the tyre shouldn't have any bearing on what you buy though as a pattern will work as well in all the sizes it comes in.)

Personally I rate Goodyear Eagle F1s as an excellent tyre in the wet that is still very good in the dry, as well as being progressive when you're over the limit.
Other than that, I've only really tried:

Yokohamas (any) = shockingly bad in the wet, pretty grippy in the dry.
Toyo Proxes T1-S = hang on well in the wet but then just let go, great in the dry, quite a soft compound.

yoko parada or A539's i can't fault them

they're a bit crap in the wet, but if you drive fast in the wet you deserve to crash
