Williams ECU

Made in 1994, so Im guessing itll only work in Williams1/2..

Williams3 is different, by all accounts.. trying to swap mine for a standard one (mine is Superchipped).. and it can only be swapped with Willy3s!

Why are you getting rid of the chip for standard? I think the 6500 rpm limit on the williams is very low for a 16v and its easy to hit the limiter accidentally.

tell me about it! Id just sussed the engine note where I can change before it hits in most gears, sounds different now tho, so have to keep my eye on it.

Cus its scary. I missed 3rd gear and it went right round to about 7500/7700.. now, some people dont mind.. but I do want a limiter, heh.

HP Stage 1 would be ok.. 6900.. just, I want something a bit more sensible than "something above 7500 which I darent find out.." Heh.

Oh right, I have HP chip which is very good imo, know what you mean about rev limiter though The Williams engine isnt really built to rev and starts to sound rough near the limiter, I usually change at 6.5/6.7k.

Do you reckon its worth getting a chip then m8?did you get a stronger midrange?

I would get a chip again, it gives better pull in mid and top end of the revs. Its not immediatley noticable but when I tested my car on a certain bit of road where I used to crack 100 after the chip I could get 105. As this stretch is round 1/3 of a mile thats a pretty good increase.

the 2.0 isnt a fan of revving, whereas the valver lump will happy rev to 8grand without any worries ;)

It took me a few months to get used to revving to "only" 6500rpm, but you soon realise that theres little to be gained by holding on for every last rev.

The Willy lump is very linear in power delivery and while of couse it pulls even better at high revs, it pulls outstandingly from the lowest revs. I often surprise myself and other people by feathering the throttle at 2000rpm.

I hate to say this but the willy block is only designed to rev to 6.5k with 6bar oil pressure, if you extend the limiter to 7k your still gonna get 6bar oil pressure, this cant be good! could throw a rod!

6bar is plenty high enough for far more power and far more rpm.

Dont worry about it.
So what would you say is a safe place to rev to, on a standard lump?
