K20 powered 172

Iv tried all three ways, engine and box out top, box out top, and dropping subframe, all have pros and cons in terms of difficulty ( 1 man job on driveway), if the subframe bolts are loose then i think thats easier, but steering column bolt can be a pain to undo, unless you disconnect steering rack, im gonna drop subframe next week and get box out from bottom, just cant be arsed removing throttle bodies, loom and dropping coolant etc.

My interior loom is trimmed to the bare minimum, only problems I had I managed to trip the immobiliser, dinger came round and put a live feed on one of the headlight connections and it fired up, so mot sure what happened, but I haven't had no running problems so to speak.

Interior loom before it was wrapped.

What size is the front number plate on yours mate?

Sorry mucka didn't see this. It's a stick on plate and it's a 'small' size. The place I ordered do legal size, medium and small iirc. Want me to dig out the item number.

I need another for the rear actually.

It's alright mate I've seen them on eBay, just wasn't sure what size yours was! The 'small' looks ridiculously small in terms of measurement, but oddly not so much on the pics of it on your car! Lol!

Triple post lol

Other news I've brought a few things for the Clio
4pot front brakes with bells and rotors
Lightened billet flywheel off engine dynamics
PMS lightened pulleys and PAS delete kit
Bit concerned the pms pulleys might not be a direct fit with my being a cup model, but too much beer and abut bored sat round a pool, I convinced myself that I could make it work.

Got my new Box to unpack when I'm back as well

You should've let me know glyph were looking for pulleys and a flywheel! I guarantee they'd be cheaper than you've paid now.

Ahh what dam it. I can back out of the flywheel. I've already paid pms. What's the flywheel you can get your hands on? Billet 3kg jobbie?
Valeo clutches are fine for these aren't they?

Yeah it's the 2.9kg one I can get mate. £255 delivered. I can get the pulleys like I've got on my engine as well, but sounds like your too late mate.
Yeah standard valeo clutch is fine bud. That's what I'm running.

Can I ask, what's the benefit of the lightened flywheel apart from the obvious weight saving? ... Quicker rev response?

Also, same question for replacing the pulleys (I assume this is just the two cam pulleys)?

Cheers

Yeah allows the engine to rev faster mate. Plus by reducing the rotating mass you also improve the hp and engine response.

The pulleys you replace are the crank pulley and water pump pulley mate.

Thanks, same reason for changing the water And crank pulley too? I know the crank pulley is heavy, but wouldn't have thought the water pump one was?

Yes mate. The crank pulley is a bit of a grey area as the original has a damper incorporated in the design, but the solid versions don't. My engine has been dynamically balanced so in theory, it shouldn't be an issue.

Got yer, thanks. I was told in the past that a keyed crank pulley is the way to go, do these aftermarket's have 'em?

Started the Clio tonight for the first time in about 3 weeks. Started first time considering its on a Varley redtop25 and was all live and connected up, so pretty happy with that.

All I did tonight was remove the drivers seat again, to fitted the VBD x-low frame.
I also dug out my PMS axle bits and RS2 inlet that have been gathering dust, now all I've got to do is get my all parts from work and come up with a plan of action.

Need to order a flywheel from Mark and order some ARP conrod bolts and make a list of other bits required. :)

Won't touch the bottom bleed nipples lol

Happy days, if these start to wedge means your getting air in somewhere, top inner then top outer.

When I ran my WW we was looking at making up a bottom pipe linking the 2 nipples to help equalise the pressure, never got round to testing it.

Exactly how I bleed them, I'll use a easibleed as I'll probably be on me own late at night sorting it lol.

I thought the same thing with the bottom set, if I made a pipe it'll give me 4 spare bleed nipples aswell lol.
Can't see a link pipe causing any issues really.

Oh the gear oil for the LSD is the Renault stuff 75W90 semi synthetic stuff?

Standard gear oil will be fine. As would Fuchs syntran. I'm using redline mtl in mine as it holds up very well to abuse.

Had today off work so decided to spend it in the garage. Dug out my crane and stand.

Coming on nicely mate

Thanks mucka, yesterday was plain sailing, today not so much lol
Ran into a round bolt on the water pump, someone's proper had a go at it, failed and left it lol, and rounded conrod bolt which was a massive concern but managed to sort that ok, thankfully.

Box is ready to go back tho :)

And some nimbus. I decided to paint the engine whilst it was out and I was waiting for parts. I forgot what a pain in the ass it is to paint engines lol takes for ever.
