well i suppose its possable if the stock item is poor, but i would be supprised.
i cant see how to increase gas speed, whilst also increasing flow...
same goes for cams, you generally loose somewhere to gain somewhere else,
runner length i would say. couldnt really have the same runner length without going over the top of motor.
general rule of thumb is short/fat runners give better gas flow (i.e high rpm hp)
long/narrow runners give higher gas speed (better for low end...
thats a fair price really, OE is never cheap. my only problem would be if it wore very quickly again as you mention, i would be a bit upset then, hmmmm

I have done one before, only 8 valves too, so a little simpler/cheaper/quicker than a 16v motor. the pistons are very heavy duty, so chance that you have damaged them is slim, which is good :)
so 8 valves, and a cambelt kit, and only single cam, so again, simple to time up.
