Has anyone tried the universal cv boots that you glue together on a 172? Are they worth trying or will they only last 5 minutes?

I drove with a small leak on my 172 gearbox for a couple of months. I'd take it somewhere to be looked at as it's now being rebuilt so I have no car and no money!

Last week i'd put the rear window washer on and the front came on instead - took ages for the rear to come on. This week the opposite's happening so can't see where i'm going! Not pump as it's whirring - wiring or anything easier???

My 47k 172 Ph2 has smelt off and on over the last few days. Today a tiny puff of steam or smoke seemed to appear from the front of the car (nearside of central) but I could have been mistaken (as haven't been able to do it again) - after being in traffic for five minutes. got a clearish run...

Just bought myself an 02 172 and the only prob is the rubber grip is hanging off on the steering wheel - can i get replacement grips (anyone got any ideas?) or do they come off without leaving a mess? Any help's appreciated as everything else is spot on and the steering wheel annoys me!
