went to an audio specialist today to enquire about a system for my cup, told him ive got a alpine amp and sub from my old car i want to use along with upgrading all speakers and new head unit. his advice was as follows, replace front components with alpines with seperate tweeters, disconnect the speakers in the rear quarters, fit alpine 3way 6x9s in stealth shelf and fit alpine 4way amp to run all the speakers and use the 2way amp i have to run the sub, along with a pioneer head unit cant remember what model but on offer was £299 now £179 and looks a nice unit 4x50w i think. anyway total cost £580 but with club discount £500 fitted. sound good?? i know its going to sound much better than the standard crap and £500 all in sounds pretty good to me.

1) You have a Cup. ICE defeats the object!

Head Unit is obviously needed. You neednt spend over £200 really so thats ok. Yes do replace the components. Amp them. No do NOT fit 6x9s. THEY ARE NOT NEEDED ARE NOT GOOD.

So IMHO I would say either buy the H/U and components and a 2 way amp and use the exisitng amp and sub for bass.

OR sell the exisiting amp on ebay and use the money toward a nice powerful 4 way amp to power the components and the sub on a bridged channel. Dont bother with 6x9s.

IF I had a cup I would probably replace all 4 speakers in the car and the head unit and consider a 4 way amp to power them, sited in the car underneath a seat or something. Keeping it lightweight and good quality.

All the above said, Id rather see that £500 spent on Eibach springs and some good tyres.

If a Car Audio dealer recomends you 6x9s and a sub do not buy from them as they know sh!t about car audio.

ive already had it lowered and have a magnex but now want some decent sounding tunes. ok so i go for the head unit, some nice components up front, co axles or whatever they are in the rear quarters, amp them all up and stick the sub in the boot with the amp i have already. any suggestions on which speakers to go for?

If you can get hold of the Fusion stuff it is the dogs danglies. I want a set once i blow my infinitys which Im happy with even if they are a bit treble heavy. BTW 13cm speakers all round.

yeah i went to a well respected place in edinburgh a while back and they were all for the focals but we are talking serious cash like over £200 for the front components alone and i dont want to spend loads, would be happy with infinitys or similar.

£500 =

£300 Alpine 9815RR - Dabs.com
£200 CDT Audio CL-51

all you will need, no extra weight (well a little, but youre talking gramms) and will improve sound ten-fold

I personally sorted my car out with MB Quart 218.61 components in the front and nice pioneer head unit and 4 channel amp. Ran this way for ages until I could afford the rear amp and speakers and stealth shelf.

Speakers will always be the best upgrade as cheap speakers wont get the best out of a head unit. Id suggest replacing fronts first for some components as they are important for imaging. Amp fed maybe off the standard HU. If still not happy then replace HU. At least you can do in stages as you can afford each stage.

Then get rears and if in a stealth shelf should be deep enough to negate the need for a sub. Unless you really want to weigh the car down and let others hear you minutes before you arrive.

Ebay is a good source for kit. Defiantely dont go for 6x9s.

Just because its a Cup doesnt mean the man cant have decent sounds, FFS!!! Stripping the Cup might have been Renaults objective but it doesnt mean everyone who buys one has to leave it that way, Some people might buy Cups for the looks alone, ever thought of that one? And a little bit of ice isnt going to turn it into a 1.2 now is it

I agree. Each to their own and personally hate subs but love sounds. ICE is worth spending on as sometimes its the best chance to listen to music and definately helps with the journey.

in my first ice install i had 6x9s and subs which in the end turned out crap and now wif my new stuff its just subs in the back and decent comps in the front wif some midway - best way!

I have Alpine SPR135As up front, 13.5 cm JBL co-axials in rear (TBH cant even hear them but they were ex demo so got em for £7) and 10" Boxed sub and Alpine 2 channel amp just running the sub and it sounds really good!

As said before DONT get 6x9s these are a quick fix solution if u need some rear fill without subs etc. The best systems run purely Vocals from front and bass from rear! Dont skimp on the components mine were £150(although ones now split:-( )and ur lookin at £100 minimum for half decent ones.

U will need to make/buy speaker rings as the magnets on decent components are huge and will not fit in the door cards-theirs plenty of room behind the grilles though so u can still go stealthy.

SOOOO buy a decent headunit, decent components and use the sub and amp u got!
