172 Wheels on a 1.2?

  Clio 1.2 16V
I realise this may have been covered many times before but I have searched and searched.

Will my 172 16" alloys fit my 1.2 without needing spacers, If not which ones will I need 5,10,15, the car is not yet lowered although I plan to lower it at a later date because it may loook s**t with big alloys on.

Any help would be much appreciated

they will fit. but you may notice a slight rubbing on the inside of the wheel on full lock so 5mm should stop that but you might as well put 15mm on as it will look better

I'm not sure how the 1.6 compares, they may well be the same I guess, but I test fitted a 172 alloy (with 195/45/16 tyres) and had my neighbour check it. He's a tyre specialist, designs them for a living, and he said that although they are mighty close to the suspension cup they are fine. Tried them on full lock and they seemed ok too. Like Mike says it's probably worth getting a set of spacers just in case.

As for lowering, they will probably look similar to this without it:

I do have the alloys just waiting for some new tyres for them.

I fitted one on the rear but couldnt really tell,

So do you think Id be best getting some 15mm spacers?
Thanks for the input,

Cheers

there will be no issue at the rear its just the inside of the tyre that rubs on the suspension at the front if it does rub then you will only need 5mm but imo 15mm would look better
